William Ivey Long has over 70 Broadway design credits in addition to his work in television, film, opera and ballet. Mr. Long has won 6 Tony Awards, with 15 nominations. He was inducted into the Theatre Hall of Fame in January 2006 and recently completed a 4-year elected term as Chairman of the American Theatre Wing.

The current touring production of Beetlejuice, now playing at the National Theatre, is an odd theatrical piece –in that it is really more of an ostensible cult musical event for the generations in their twenties, thirties, and early forties. This in itself is perfectly fine, but I must admit that this musical had none of the edgy cult musical appeal of such marvelously innovative and witty cult musicals as The Rocky Horror Picture Show and Little Shop of Horrors. There should be some measure of real solid wit and interesting songs in even the most beloved generational cult musicals.

He won Outstanding Costume Design at the Drama Desk Awards for Bullets Over Broadway: The Musical, which he also won at the Outer Critics Circle Awards. Additionally, he received the Hewes Design Award from The Hewes Awards for The School for Lies. His accolades at the Tony Awards include Best Costume Design of a Musical for Grey Gardens, Best Costume Design for Hairspray, and Best Costume Design for The Producers, as well as Best Costume Design for Crazy for You and for Nine. Long's other notable achievements include winning the BroadwayWorld Award for Best Costume Design for La Cage aux Folles, along with esteemed awards from The Hewes Awards for his work on La Cage Aux Folles, Contact, The Music Man, and Swing. He also earned Outstanding Costume Design honors at the Drama Desk Awards for Hairspray, The Producers, The Music Man, Cabaret, and Guys and Dolls.
