 Casting is announced for Seattle Shakespeare Company's free Wooden O productions of King Lear and The Merry Wives of Windsor which start performances on Thursday, July 12. Both productions will perform in park venues throughout King and Pierce Counties (please see attached schedule). This summer marks the 25th Anniversary for Wooden O productions in the parks. The 10th Anniversary of the Shuler Hensley Awards were held in Atlanta at the Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre on April 19.  Two of the award winners, Parker Jennings and Laughton Berry, will compete with young performers from across the country for the coveted Jimmy® Award as well as scholarships and professional opportunities. The National High School Musical Theatre Awards - Jimmy® Awards - will take place at the Minskoff Theatre on Broadway at 7:30 pm on June 25, 2018, and will be hosted by Tony Award Winner® Laura Benanti.  For the first time ever, the Jimmy® Awards will be streamed live on Facebook at facebook.com/JimmyAwards. The American Tap Dance Foundation's TAP DANCE AWARDS will be presented on Tuesday, July 10 at the Leonard Nimoy Thalia Theater, Symphony Space at 7pm. The ceremony will honor winners of the organization's Hoofer and Tap Preservation Awards and include inductions into the ATDF Tap Dance Hall of Fame. The awards evening, which will also offer film presentations and performances, is a featured event of 'TAP CITY,' the week-long celebration of tap dance returning to New York City for its 18th consecutive year (July 7 to 13). Developed in partnership with 836M, the exhibition features the work of artists such as photographer RJ Muna, architect Christopher Haas, bio-acoustician Bernie Krause, and visual artist Jim Campbell. Through-LINES is an immersive journey along the creative strands that have sustained the growth of LINES Ballet and the work of its founders, Doris Duke Artist-awardee choreographer Alonzo King and creative director Robert Rosenwasser over more than three decades.  (more...)

Incoming shows battle for theatres in order to find their stage; however, this isn't the only venue that leads to issues. Rehearsal space is few and far between. Center Theatre Group has announced casting for the inaugural L.A. Writers' Workshop Festival: New Plays Forged In L.A., a one day event at the Kirk Douglas Theatre celebrating some of the freshest and most exciting voices in modern American theatre. The festival will take place on June 23 from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. with readings of three new plays by three L.A. Writers' Workshop participants from throughout the program's 13-year history. The Bickford Theatre at the Morris Museum presents Danny Bacher and his All-Star Band in concert on Thursday, July 12, as part of the popular Summer JazzFest. The show, "Accentuate the Positive," draws on tunes from his soon-to-be-released "Still Happy" CD as well as his exciting salute to Louis Armstrong, Louis Jordan and Louis Prima from his best-selling debut CD. Danny will also premiere several new arrangements including a tribute to the great Johnny Mercer. The All-Stars will feature Harry Allen on tenor sax, Charlie Caranicas on trumpet, Allen Farnham on piano, Bill Moring on bass, and Alvester Garnett on drums.
