The Dessoff Choirs begins its 94th season with Requiem for Whitman: a one night only concert inspired by the American poet and journalist Walt Whitman (1819-1892). As part of a season-long celebration of Whitman's bicentennial, Dessoff's 60 singers will perform exquisite choral settings of Whitman's poetry by Bach, Schuman, Pizzetti, as well as the world premiere of a newly commissioned Whitman-inspired work by contemporary composer Douglas Geers. NY Public Library To Screen 'Dibukim' And Hold Gesher Theatre Panel

After an absence of five years and under the auspices of the Cherry Orchard Festival, Israel's acclaimed Gesher Theatre returns to New York in early October with its two leading productions The Dybbuk and In the Tunnel. On Tuesday, October 2, just prior to the performances, Gesher Artistic Director Yevgeny Arye and company members invite the public to join them for a free screening on the making of Dibukim, a 60-minute film by Ram Loevy, winner of the honorable mention at the Haifa International Film Festival, which documents the production process of The Dybbuk and follows the creative team and actors during rehearsals. The screening will be followed by a 30-minute question and answer session with Yevgeny Arye and members of the company. This film is in Hebrew with English subtitles. More info & trailer. (more...)

Overture Seeks Musical Theater Teaching Artists For DMIS

Overture Center for the Arts is seeking experienced musical theater choreographers, directors, musical directors, actors, producers and theater education staff to train as teaching artists for Disney Musicals in Schools.  The program, currently running at nine Madison Metropolitan School District elementary schools is designed to create sustainable theater programs in elementary schools for students in grades three-five. Through the program, participating schools produce a Disney KIDS musical in their school community and join in a culminating performance at Overture. (more...)

Israel's Gesher Theatre Returns To NYC With Two New Productions

Maria Shclover and Irina Shabshis, Cherry Orchard Festival co-founders and producers, today announced Israel's celebrated Gesher Theatre will return to New York City in early October with its two leading productions The Dybbuk and In the Tunnel at The Gerald W. Lynch Theater at John Jay College (524 West 59 Street).  Founded in 1991 in Tel Aviv by director Yevgeny Arye, these Gesher Theatre productions are being presented as part of a North American tour, which includes performances in Toronto and Pittsburgh. Last night (Friday, January 11, 2019) Disney Theatrical Productions hosted 'Disney Theatrical at 25: The Stars Align' at BroadwayCon in Manhattan. The lively panel was made up of some of the stars who created these indelible shows and characters in their original productions. Moderated by Disney Theatrical Productions head Thomas Schumacher, the panel was a fascinating and hilarious discussion filled with behind-the-scenes stories. Lyric Theatre Receives Grant From Disney To Fund School Program

Lyric Theatre of Oklahoma has been awarded a $120,000 grant from Disney to bring the Disney Musicals in Schools program to Oklahoma City Public Schools.  The program is a free initiative developed by Disney Theatrical Productions to create sustainable theater programs in under-resourced elementary schools.  The grant funds two years of programming; Lyric Theatre will select five area public elementary schools to participate in 2018-19 and another five will be selected for next year.
