Scholarships for students pursuing theatre-related college majors.
BroadwayWorld’s Theatre Scholarship Guide collects performing-arts, music, dance, design, and related awards for students planning college or conservatory study. Listings range from nationwide competitions to local foundation awards—use the filters below to narrow by region, deadline month, award size, and study level.
Categories you’ll see: portable cash scholarships paid to a college; institutional talent awards tied to a school’s audition; summer intensive / pre-college aid; and competition prizes that may renew annually. Always confirm whether funds are tuition-only, renewable, or paid directly to a program.
Deadlines calendar: Many arts cycles cluster in winter–spring (January–May) for the following academic year, with fall deadlines for competitions and some music awards. Filter by deadline month to build a realistic application calendar, and watch for listings marked Closed—those cycles have passed or the program is currently inactive.
Eligibility basics: Typical requirements include citizenship/residency rules, GPA floors, intended arts major or demonstrated artistic involvement, and sometimes financial need, geographic limits, or membership (Thespians, union families, cultural organizations). Detail pages outline eligibility, application steps, required materials, typical award size, and past recipients when available—then verify everything on the sponsor website before you apply.
Looking for artist fellowships and residencies rather than college scholarships? See the Theatre Fellowships Database.

About this Scholarship: Patricia Van Kirk, our dear and beloved friend, died unexpectedly on March 23, 2005 at the age of 54 in Mazatlan, Mexico. She was born on Nov. 26, 1950 in Philadelphia. Patricia, a breast cancer survivor, was an avid photographer, gardener, and world traveler who had a tender appreciation for God’s creations. She blessed her loved ones with her insight, wisdom, passion for life, and wonderful wit. Patricia had a unique ability to see the beauty in the things and people around her, and to draw all of us who knew her into her compassionate vision. Patricia valued diversity and was gifted at helping people see their own worth. She touched many lives through her work as Director of Front Room Theater and Hidden Histories, and through her position at Metro Transit as a Base Chief. We will remember Patricia for her love, laughter, generosity, wisdom, and for the value she placed on friendships. She lives in every flower, sunset, and magic moment. We will miss her for always and will love her forever. We will honor her life by our own acts of kindness. The Patricia Van Kirk Memorial Scholarship extends her legacy and passion for life, humanity, and beauty to a new generation of theatre and visual arts scholars. |
