The Absolute Brightness of Leonard Pelkey in Broadway THE ABSOLUTE BRIGHTNESS OF LEONARD PELKEY
Honest Pint Theatre Co.
4/6-4/21/2018
Honest Pint Theatre Co. Presents The regional premiere of The Absolute Brightness of Leonard Pelkey by James Lecesne April 6 - 21, 2018 at William Peace University’s Leggett Theatre Who: Featuring David Henderson Directed by Susannah Hough Where: Leggett Theatre on the campus of William Peace University, 15 East Peace Street, Raleigh, NC 27604 When: April 6 & 7 at 7:30 pm, April 8 at 3:00 pm April 12, 13, 14 at 7:30 pm April 19, 20, 21 at 7:30 pm Tickets: $20 general admission, $15 students/under 25 Veteran Raleigh actor David Henderson portrays every character in a small Jersey shore town as they unravel the story of Leonard Pelkey, a tenaciously optimistic and flamboyant 14-year-old boy who has gone missing. A luminous force of nature whose magic is only truly felt once he is gone, Leonard becomes an unexpected inspiration as the town’s citizens question how they live, who they love, and what they leave behind. An amazing tour-de-force one-man performance that will enthrall you as several characters are brought fully to life without the use of costumes or props. If you’re the kind of person who enjoys human-centered stories, who can’t resist a detective yarn no matter how basic and who enjoys watching an actor impersonate a town full of kooky yet hilariously recognizable characters, then click off the television and head to Leggett Theatre at William Peace University. This show, which was an off-Broadway sleeper, is what you’ve been waiting for. James Lecesne is the author of the screenplay for “Trevor,” the Oscar-winning short film that gave rise to the founding of the Trevor Project, an organization focused on suicide prevention among LGBT youth. Lecesne has a moral, but fortunately it’s a darn good one. Chuck, musing in his Shakespearean way, asks when reflecting on the troubled yet inordinately bright life of Leonard: “Is there anything in this world more unexpected than a human being?” “Featuring a tender score by “Spring Awakening” and “American Psycho” songwriter Duncan Sheik, “Absolute Brightness” is a must-see story of love and faith that will challenge you to embrace those around you for their differences. Go see it -- and bring a box of tissues.” — NBC News “…shines with humanity…an affecting and entertaining testament to the beauty of a world in which difference is celebrated rather than denigrated.” — Charles McNulty, The Los Angeles Times “A superlative show that leaves you beaming with joy… Like that great storyteller (Dickens), Mr. Lecesne evokes a grittily specific world, but one in which good and evil are real presences. Given the appalling state of international affairs, it’s a notion that feels grimly in sync with the zeitgeist.” — Charles Isherwood, The New York Times More info: www.honestpinttheatre.org or find Honest Pint Theatre Co. on FaceBook Honest Pint Theatre Company is a professional theatre company established in 2013 and located in Raleigh, NC. Their inaugural offering was a critically acclaimed production of A STEADY RAIN by Keith Huff. Honest Pint’s 2015 production of Sharr White’s ANNAPURNA won awards for Set Design, Acting, and Best Drama at the Inaugural Triangle Theatre awards. Most recently, Honest Pint produced the critically acclaimed production of William Shakespeare's HAMLET (UNCUT) and the regional premiere of THE NIGHT ALIVE by Conor McPherson, which was hailed by critics as the season’s most satisfying production and one of the top five productions of 2017 in the Triangle. Last September, audiences roared for their production of KING LEAR and critics lauded their November production of THE MYSTERY OF LOVE & SEX. Look for their Home Brew Series as well as two more productions in 2018. Chicago in Broadway CHICAGO
Hoof 'n' Horn

Closing out the 81st season of the south's oldest student-run musical theatre organization, Hoof ‘n’ Horn presents Chicago, the longest running American musical in broadway history. From the creative minds of Broadway legends John Kander, Fred Ebb and Bob Fosse, Chicago paints the glamour and depravity of the roaring 20’s like no other. This show will draw you into the world of bootleggers, showgirls, adulterers, and all that jazz. Set to a sensational and snazzy score, the 6-time Tony Award® winning production has dazzled audiences since 1975. Come experience the thrill of Chicago in the Rubenstein Arts Center, Duke’s newest gem on campus. Beauty and The Beast in Broadway BEAUTY AND THE BEAST
Temple Theatre
4/19-5/13/2018
Step into the enchanted world of Broadway's modern classic, Disney's Beauty and the Beast, an international sensation that has played to over 35 million people worldwide in 13 countries. Based on the Academy Award-winning animated feature, the stage version includes all of the wonderful songs written by Alan Menken and the late Howard Ashman, along with new songs by Mr. Menken and Tim Rice. The original Broadway production ran for over thirteen years and was nominated for nine Tony Awards, including Best Musical. The classic story tells of Belle, a young woman in a provincial town, and the Beast, who is really a young prince trapped under the spell of an enchantress. If the Beast can learn to love and be loved, the curse will end and he will be transformed into his former self. But time is running out. If the Beast does not learn his lesson soon, he and his household will be doomed for all eternity. This "tale as old as time" is filled with spectacular costume and set opportunities or, even more simply staged, Disney's Beauty and the Beast offers a great opportunity to bring your entire community together for family theatre at its best.
