Guest who - We loved the show! Attended at the Fringefest in Edinburgh. Slightly irreverent but still delightful. If you are an American of true Scot ancestry you will laugh at your American "tourista" image and be proud to be a Scot. Not for the prudes but a very comical take on Scottish history.

Everyman - A near perfect telecast. Kudos to PBS and the excellent cast. Now...where are the other great original Broadway classics? Dating back to the 1950s most, if not all of them, have been preserved on videotape/film masters. And recently the newer shows have all been recorded in HD. Why have so few of these gems been released for sale or rent?

E. Winter - I saw the show in Sydney last night and was disappointed. The gay audience seemed to love being abused and yelled at and while members of the audience did not seem to mind being humiliated on stage however the dirty language and sexual connotations wore thin after awhile. I yearned for a bit of wit and where were the airline hostess characters that were promoted in the review article that had prompted me to buy tickets in the first place? too much playing to the audience and the lowest common denominator. SOUND OFF: SOUTH PACIFIC on PBS 2010/08/19

Biggs - To quote Wikipedia: "The first Broadway revival of South Pacific opened on April 3 at Lincoln Center's Vivian Beaumont Theatre. Bartlett Sher directed, with musical staging by Christopher Gattelli and associate choreographer Joe Langworth. The opening cast starred Kelli O'Hara as Nellie, Paulo Szot as Emile and Matthew Morrison as Lt. Cable, with Danny Burstein as Billi's and Loretta Ables Sayre as Bloody Mary.[20] There had been two earlier revivals of South Pacific at Lincoln Center, one in 1967 produced by Richard Rodgers and starring Florence Henderson and Giorgio Tozzi (Rosanna Brazer's singing voice in the 1958 film), and one by the New York City Opera in 1987, starring Justino Dias and Susan Bigelow. The 1967 revival was issued on LP and later appeared on CD, but the 1987 one was not." There, that should clear everything up!!

Biggs - Love this new production though I do, I've wondered the same thing. the 1968 production of which you speak is well known. The OCA was recently made available on both CD and digital download. It is quite nice to have the lovely vocal talents of Florence Henderson and those of the astounding Giorgio Tozzi so well represented. Further, it was produced by the now defunct Music Theater of Lincoln Center, with no less than Richard Rodgers serving as its' president. It was performed at Lincoln Center's New York State Theater, just across the plaza from the Vivian Beaumont. So, in reality, neither production actually played on Broadway. My best guess as to why the 1968 revival has been given short shrift is because it was never intended for a long run. I might be wrong, but I seem to recall those Lincoln Center revivals (there were several), had runs limited to only six or eight weeks - maybe even less, although I think some of them became the basis for touring productions

guest - No, Barry Humphries -- not Dame Edna -- is a CBE. Edna was knighted by former Aussie PM Gough Whitlam in an impromptu airport encounter when he declared "Arise, Dame Edna." It appears that her knighthood is not part of one of the chivalric orders (e.g., KCBE, KCMG, GVCO, etc.) and is more akin to a knight bachelor.

Biggs - I think you may have confused this with the famous musical "A Marine is a Special Person". Oh, there isn't one? Damn. Maybe you should take it upon yourself to compose it. Then you could worry to your hearts content about patches, wings and all the other minutiae that is of such overriding concern to an "old-timer" like you. Meanwhile, the rest of us will just have to somehow carry on with what we have: Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II acknowledged master piece, "South Pacific", a show not about patches but, rather, about trying to find a moment of tranquility and peace while swirling in the horror of war.

Don Treact - So while the White House is permanently off limits in order to clearly communicate to average citizens the weight of the problem of restoration of legal thought, the destruction of which caused the economic collapse, it will remain freely on its land. The White House will not have to undergo having another entire building freely applied to it, as if that other building were in use maturely and based on correct knowledge. Since this is the United States, what the White House did will not be done to it. That would make the other buildings no different from the White House, and the United States doesn't play tennis that way. While its punishment is that it will be permanently off limits to ethical adults once an adequate understanding occurs, the White House will nonetheless ultimately be as free as the Treasury building or a memorial to interact with the architecture of Washington, D.C. This wouldn't happen in China. One of the reasons it works this way in the United States is that cruel and unusual punishment destroys the nature of punishment as mattering. When it dims its lights for the night in the coming decades, the White House can thank the founding fathers.

Didi - If Clay and Ruben's concert did not sell half of the tickets at their recent concerts as one commented upthread, why in the heck would there be a follow-up solo tour in the works? I think a Christmas tour is also in the works as well. I agree he belongs to the likes of MBuble et al, but I, too agree that Clay has the better voice, range and all. The number of CDs sold does not confirm that an artist is good! There are artists who really can sing and sell millions of CDs, on the other hand, there are so-called artists who sell millions who can't sing a tune! Anyway, I wish Clay the best. I hope the struggling music industry gives him the recognition he truly deserves. Thanks for this great article!

Ultimately a new musical worthy of her talent would be best. Maybe a revival of A Little Night Music, this time with some elegance and production values and the heavy-handed, overrated Trevor Nunn kept an ocean away?

Crystal - UGH! I am 26, who left the same "fundamental" church they attend years ago. I still have active "fundamentalist" family members, including my father and his wives. I am absolutely appauled and ashamed that this family would put their children on TV like this. They are doing for themselves, and the fact that they want to help their children think its "ok" and not be secretive about it is total bulls**t. I have struggled for years for the teasing and questioning from other children about this lifestyle.... not including the torment they will get from their own fellow "believers" by showing their lives as well. If their daughters are smart enough to leave when they can they will always have this following them. Shame on this family. This lifestyle is not ok for children... It is awful that it is being glorified.

From the preview I saw, one of the daughters said it is not for her... this is just so sad :(

Grandma Joan - I saw 3 of the Timeless Tour concerts - Asheville,NC, Lancaster, PA and NYC. This was an outstanding, fun, joyful show. Not to mention the amazing voices of Clay and Rubin, as well as his backup singers, and his band. is always fabulous. All in all, this was a real variety show, something that has been missing for many years. The songs from the 50's, 60's, 70's, 80's and 90's were great choices, and has the audience on their feet dancing, swaying, singing and simply loving it for at least two hours. I've been a fan of Clay's since American Idol and am so proud of Clay for all of his accomplishments. This tour is right up there with the best of the best that Clay has done.

Don Treact - The 43rd post now. The 43rd president is the USPOSE, the U.S. President On September Eleventh. The articles on the Mexican drug cartels using their own versions of billboards to recruit would mean that those cartels have a "position responsibility" act. Such an act means they do not force Mexican sons to join in their activity. Doing so would be "uncool" and not "allow individual choice." Their ritual murders, also, enforce ideas of individual choice. So, there has been no context allowed for U.S. citizens to study how they do get recruits, by portraying the United States as full of the suckers who buy the drugs. It will be necessary to permanently stay out of the White House, as a statement of trust with the citizens of the U.S. When Ione Skye becomes the U.S. president, she'll have to use a different building to work in. Lots of sweat.

I saw a terrific production (at Lincoln Center, no less) starring Georgio Tozzi and Florence Henderson in 1968! I even have the original cast album. Many of us oldtimers and theatre buffs have memories that go back further than yesterday.

Lauren - I went to see Billy Elliot in March, I needed an escape so I figured that the best possible place was a theatre. My mother died about nine years ago from cancer and I had no idea that this show would have such an effect on me or that I would find myself sitting next to someone who knew exactly how I felt. She had been quiet for most of the first act, a perfect audience member clapping when it was needed, but when "The Letter" scene began to play out before us, I found that I wasn't alone in my crying. I was embarrassed until I saw that she was crying just as hard as I was. I handed her a tissue and during intermission she thanked me, apologizing for her "blubbering." I said that there was no need to apologize because I was crying just as much, to which she said "Who is it that you lost?" I told her about my mom, and as it turns out she had recently lost her father two years ago in a car crash. We never thought to exchange information or even learn each others name, and I kick myself for it to this day. However I will never forget her, or the feeling that I wasn't alone that day. The closeups at the right time captured emotion one would not even be able to see from the front row orchestra. The music amazing, actors at the top of their game, in short I LOVED IT. I too want a DVD of this production. Thank you PBS and thank you for not interrupting for pledges during it - but I would pledge if you offered the DVD as a thank you.

David - Having seen the show twice once at the beginning (Monday) and once on the last day (Saturday) i was greatly impressed by the progress through the week. I thaught the Monday performance was amazing but the Saturday performance blew me away, the emotion was clearly represented in every one of the actors eyes and they embraced it whole heartedly to take the performance to a whole new level. Rogers vocals were moving giving a great passion and commitment behind all his lines shown most brilliantly in the scene at the funeral where Collins gave such an emotional performance i was close to tears. All in all an excellent show with amazing performers.

PETA Stages Filipino Adaptation of Rabindranath Tagore's THE POST OFFICE, 8/6-9/12 2010/08/03
Posted: 8/21/2010
@qwnyx - I have just arrived from PETA Theater to watch Ang Post Office and indeed, what they said here are all true. The play is a combination of comedy and drama and though I tried hard to keep my tears from falling, in the end, I still failed. The last part where Selya said, "Pakisabi po sa kanya na hindi po siya makaklimutan ni Selya" and the part where Mang Pedring hugged him, really moved me into tears. Abel is such a great optimist. Because of him, I realized that we should not overlook or rather underestimate the things that we do. Oftentimes, when we do things, we think that they're just simple or nothing and not important at all. What we don't know is that, in the small things that we do, we can have big impact/effect on someone's life. We should not take things for granted and rather, we should see the bright side in them and most importantly, we should enjoy and love every single thing that we do. Because of this play, I have come to think that there are no great things after all. Only small things with great love. Another characteristic of Abel that I liked is his being full of hope. We have all experienced disappointments, failures and the likes, and because of those things, we tend to give up easily. But Abel, the innocent Abel, believed until his last breath that he would receive a letter from the king. I think, it is important that we, like Abel, should also not lose hope. More importantly, we should not let others to take it away from us. It was said before that the youth is the hope of our country. How can it be then when our own hopes are gone? :) The play "Ang Post Office" is an inspiration to me. And I hope that there could be an "Abel" in each and everyone of us. God bless. :)

Moyra - I thought the cast were excellent tackling a difficult even ambitious adaption with great enthusiasm and style. The "Tango Maureen" was fantastic entertainment. I saw the last show on Saturday and perhaps because it was the last performance the emotion in the group was tangible. As for American accents the girl who played Lexi Darling had a very convincing accent the best in the Show. All in all, it was what it should be raw and a little rough but none the less a good attempt. Some future stars I would say in the Cast the lead girls and Angel were comfortable with their vocals and the musicians and chorus had a strong input into the experience. Someone said it was their teacher who had to stand in for the lead role on Saturday well he should be on Broadway a true performer. Well done, I add I went with trepidation because my daughter wanted to see it and it was me who could have sat through it again !

0claycanyouc - Hat's off to Broadway World for putting out the good word on the Tried & True tour that is capturing it's audiences whereever it has gone. I have been a fan of Clay's since American Idol and have been waiting for his unique and numerous talents to be recognised. Clay and Ruben together are like b.u.t.t.a.h, Their banter, as well as their music flows effortlessly from start to finish. I had one helluva time! Thanks Broadway World!!!!

Broadway Blog - THE ADDAMS FAMILY Review Roundup 2010/04/08

Scooter - From "Thing" opening the curtain to Cousin IT opening the second act, I thought the production was amazing. The double entendres and inuendo were hilarious. Lane and Neuwirth had chemistry. The gent that played Lurch was great, and the puppeteering to make the effects work was great as well. While the show had corny moments, come on!! It's the Addams Family! I found the show full of belly laughs and snickers, and Grandma-ma was a riot. The night I went, she seemed to ad lib her part at the dinner scene so well that Bebe had to put her face down so we couldn't see her laughing her ass off! FUNNY, FUNNY, FUNNY!!! Just Go! You're not going to see Les Mis or Phantom, you're going to see a musical comedy. Don't listen to the tight-@ss critics who are looking for nothing but the next "Cats", listen to the real people who were grinning ear-to-ear when they left the Lunt-Fontane!
