The personality and charm is seen everywhere and the beauty of the house was a lasting tribute to them. Since we live in Tucson, we are eagerly looking forward to the opening of the play, 10 Chimneys and the U WI reception. Carol Johnson

bobby harris - I too saw ron sharpe play the lead and was overwealmed by the production on stage with all the moving parts and projection screen. I did not think it possible for me to enjoy it as much as the last 8 times i've seen it (7 times on Broadway) and this was my second time in philly (walnut street theatre and the academy of music. I am a former professional singer and if I ever had to do it all over I would study for the Broadway stage. Wherre do they get all those beautiful voices. Hope theres broadway in Heaven cause that will be my niche. Lord forgive me but its your giving of the talent that inspires people. Victor You must have a wonderful smile on your face watching these young folks bring your show to life all over the world. "Keep the Dream Going". God Bless you all who are involved in the production. I'll be seeing you again. Just a footnote: My wife and I used your music for our wedding Oct.,2004. Thank you again.

Kim McClaran - 501(c)3 organizations have the same expenses and some times more expenses than For-Profit companies. Their hands are bound by IRS rules regarding use of profits and disposition of funds. In other words, Not for Profit and Non-Profit organization income does not equate to "break even" in terms of producing income. It's unfortunate that the IRS doesn't have more accurate terminology for 501(c)3 organizations.

bway baby - Methinks 'Mike' is a member of the company. Bottom line: If you've been handed $65 million and still can't write, compose and direct an ending to your show after TWO MONTHS of previews, (with yet another month needed to still figure it out), something is VERY wrong with your skills and abilities (not to mention the many avoidable injuries you've inflicted on your cast). Those that paid to see what they thought would be an open show are now seeing yet another preview performance due to yet ANOTHER delay -- as Taymore and the producers seemingly kill time to hide as long as possible from the critics. 15 weeks of previews for the biggest waste of money in bway's history, when most shows preview for 4. Clearly Broadway's best are no where to be found anywhere near this production. Should be open season for critics to go in now and share the truth.

Marion - I'm happy to read in the synopsis that the play asks the audience to think for themselves, and that the play presents both sides of the debate about who Joseph Smith was. What I have heard about him are characteristics that some of the Missionaries of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints relayed to me in person, at my home. I would like to know who his peers considered Joseph Smith to be in his own day. Prophets are people, and so they have both character strengths and character flaws. I would be curious to hear the whole story, with my interest being both Religion and History. This sounds like a well-researched, objective script, according to the synopsis.

As his current student gives testimony above, Erik is a kind, sensitive, respectful and professional artist. Many like myself, his students and audience members who see his work benefit from his thoughtful perspective on the world. Whatever your viewpoint on the content of this play, our constitution gives Erik and fellow writers the right by law to freedom of speech. As aptly pointed out in an above post, just as American citizens have the right to worship openly - the freedom of speech of all American citizens is protected by law. END OF PLAY.

From my perspective, Teresa sets the "gold standard" for competence & professionalism for any production she's involved with. ChrisC - Wow! As someone who works in theatre and is originally from Pittsburgh, I'm so glad to see such a response to a reading being done there! There are some great theatres in the 'burgh, but it would be wonderful to have more of theatre scene, especially with one of the best drama schools right in their backyard. That being said, the topic of Joseph Smith will always bring fire. But he was a fascinating individual (take that however you want it) and the possibilities of great works of art revolving around a story like his are endless. The origin of any religion is questionable, if you look at it literally. That's scary to some because there's no way to examine a religion without examining why people believe what they do, which may be territory in which some don't wish to tread. I wish I could come to this reading, as it seems like a very interesting script. Thanks for pushing the envelope, PICT! I've seen several productions of yours since way back in '97, and hope more theatres thrive as you have in Pittsburgh.

Allen - La'Chris, I agree with you. Period. Ann, You say that "anything is fair game, anything, or nothing is." I agree, but for some folks on this thread, it doesn't seem that Erik Ramsey is fair game. They (and you) apparently think that Smith is fair game, but not Ramsey. Or have you changed your opinion on that matter? You said that "what is driving the writing [is]...far more interesting than cutting at Erik with your double-edged sword of fanaticism." I have no such sword, and I find it rather ironic that you would say I have such a sword when I was doing nothing but trying to get at the very thing you said is "far more interesting." I addressed why I thought Erik wrote the play. I was told I couldn't do that; I needed to read it first. I asked for a copy so I could read it, and nobody has provided a way for me to do that. Finally, you ask whether I "think Joseph Smith can stand up to non-Mormon scholarship." Forgiving the implication that a play is "scholarship" (as opposed to art), I really do think he can stand up to scholarship. I've been involved in Mormon studies (from an academic, scholarly perspective) for more than twenty years. I've read everything (good, bad, and downright ugly) that has been written about Joseph Smith by non-Mormons. I suspect I've read more on the topic--again, from non-Mormon sources--than any non-Mormon on this thread. If you have suggestions on scholarship to read that I may not have read, I'm open to them; just let me know what they are. Now, back to my earlier question to you: Do you know where I can get a copy of Ramsey's script? -Allen

Theatre for New Audience Presents CYMBELINE 2011/01/03
Posted: 1/14/2011
Jack Percelay - The Fiasco group is comprised of an extraordinarily talented and creative group of 6 graduates from the Brown MFA program. Their production of 12th NIght was wonderfully staged in a small theatre space. They have now brought their talents to the comfortable setting of the New Victory Theater with a much larger audience, a bigger stage, but the same energy and even better acoustics. As a fan of NY theater, excellent acting is the expected norm, no matter how off Broadway one goes. And the Bard writes a good play. These six actors add brilliance with a mix of music that ranges from near Gegorian Chant to hill billy (yes, that was a washboard!) in a theater that carries the actors voices and the music without any hint of electronic amplification. The final scene where various identifities and misdeeds are revealed is a tour de force in the spirit of the current version of 39 steps that left me thinking any more actors (e.g. one actor per role) would have been extraneous.

Ann - You missed my point, baby. It's not about whether the playwright is a saint or a sinner or a mix of puppies and Satan. It's about the art itself. Anything is fair game, anything, or nothing is. And you can question motives, you should question what is driving the writing. Why did the playwright write this play now? That's far more interesting than cutting at Erik with your double-edged sword of fanaticism. Which also cuts both ways. Excellent on wanting to read it. Do you not think Joseph Smith can stand up to non-Mormon scholarship?

La'Chris - I like to get to the heart of things, and discussion on religion and religious leaders is a funny thing. Any mention on the subject(s) - whether it be in the form of a novel, play, essay, or a non-fiction book - is often met with support or denouncement. The same holds true here. I am a playwright who is currently writing a play about the Jehovah's Witnesses (I practiced the faith for many years but don't any longer) and so I can understand what my fellow playwright, Mr. Ramsey, is going through. You're damned to write your facts and opinions, and damned if you don't. There's always someone who is going to be offended and call you a liar. More to the point, all religions were founded by imperfect men who did imperfect things. Ironically, whether we be scholars or adherents, we hold fast to what we know to be true about these religions irrespective of that. And why? Because none of us want or like our beliefs to be challenged, no matter how convincing or unconvincing an argument. The question here is: If we know that religions were founded by imperfect men, why do we feel the need to defend every ounce of their lives so vehemently? We don't know what really happened in Joseph Smith's life; we weren't there. All of it is a mix of speculation, fact, opinion, and bad (or convenient) memory. Yet, there is ALWAYS more to learn about a person or thing or situation. So dig deeper and do more research. You'll find that the beliefs you hold so dear will be challenged. To use the tired but appropriate example, there once was a time when we all thought the world was flat. Now we're all looking at satellite photos that show us that the Earth is indeed round. Go figure. We can be right and wrong at the same time. To all Erik Ramsey and all my fellow playwrights: keep writing. You're going to piss people off, but that's the only way to get people out of their slumbers and question what they know to be true. There is always room to go deeper as there is much to discover.

Allen - Ann, "Is Erik that fragile and ephemeral that he'll go up in a whiff of writerly smoke? And leave Joseph alone with the personal attacks..." The sword cuts both ways. You support Erik (obviously), but it really does swing both ways. You obviously missed my question; why is it OK for Erik to discover (in your words) whether "Smith was a saint or scoundrel" but not for people (like me) to question Erik? Is the double standard really that subtle? I also appreciate the suggestion to read the play, as I mentioned earlier. I'd love to read it. I've asked Phaeton to provide a copy of the script or a place where I can procure a copy of the script. Perhaps you, in making your suggestion, would be kind enough to provide the same? It does no good to keep telling people to do something (such as read the script) if there is no way for people to do what you are telling them they should do. ;-) -Allen

Ann - I know Erik Ramsey. I know his writing, which is thoughtful, well-researched, and timely. The subject of Joseph Smith is a powder keg. Fine. But the LDS followers need to take a breath and oh, read the play first or see it before condemning it basd on a summary in an article. Whether Smith was a saint or a scoundrel, well, is that not what Ramsey, or any playwright, novelist, poet, essayist and so forth, should get a chance to discover and present, no matter the consequences? Why the hysteria? It smacks of a church, which some have labeled a cult, standing on very shaky legs. And knowing it stands on shaky legs, and savagely trying to bolster itself by any means necessary; a draconian shut down of anything that reeks of some other truth or fact or some other version than what's presented in the pretty displays which can be viewed in the lobby. Art is meant to offend, make you question, make you think. It's not to soothe or comfort. When it does so, it becomes propaganda. Please have faith.

Ann - Is Joseph Smith that fragile and ephermal that he'll go up in a whiff of writerly smoke? And leave Erik alone with the personal attacks. I know it's an acceptable ritual these days to flay people alive using public whips of character instead of doing any actual research, study, or journalism, and after all, it's more fun to rip and tear up character than dryly discuss meritorious or not so meritorious work, but again, READ THE PLAY OR GO SEE IT before making up your mind that Mr. Smith might need some intervention and vociferous rallying to the LDS flag.

Given the snow events all will play out well when the snow will open as a must see by all those visiting NYC in the Spring and Summer. Excellent marketing ploy. George Lovenguth

Diane Shreve - Hi everyone, my name is Diane Shreve. As a close, personal confidante of Greg Proops as well as his official spokeswoman, I would like to take this opportunity to tell everyone to watch this show. I helped choose the title and I am in constant contact with the producers in an advisory capacity. They are releasing official content only through my YouTube channel, so for access to the channel, please email me at webmistress_diane@greg-proops.net. Thank you for your time.

LOVE NEVER DIES - Can It Be Third Time Lucky? 2011/01/12

jimmycurry01 - Even if Christine is fascinated with the Phantom, she would never go back to him. He is an obsessive murderous stalker. "He kills without a though, her murders all that's good." The Phantom makes Christine fear for her life, and she says as much. It is the idea that she has gone back to the Phantom that remains Love Never Dies greatest flaw. The score (even the previously used parts) is beautiful, Ramin and Sierra sound amazing, but the book just won't ever work. Many have argued that this should be viewed as a stand alone show, however, it is not. It is a sequel, it shares characters, back grounds, and directly quotes the previous work. This is no more a stand alone work as The Empire Strikes Back is to the first Star Wars film.

ettore - @ manhattanman: please show some respect for the works of the others: there are so many productions all over the world (ever seen Cirque du soleil?) where this kind of acrobacies are normally used: the fact that they needed more time for rehersals doesn't mean that they don't know what they are doing. a lot of workers are involved actors, stunts, tecnicians, musicians and they work hard for the final project: RESPECT them!

Cookie - I've been keeping my fingers crossed that Clay Aiken will be considered as one of the judges. He would be perfect. He did a fantastic job on star search for David Foster. Very articulate, knows what he's talking about. and he's easy on the eyes. Plus the man is a wonderful entertainer and surprise, surprise he can sing better than most. He would be perfect. Because of his own past experiences he would be a wonderful mentor also for the contestants.

bway baby - "...we are nearly there." I guess they need another $65 million to find someone who can write real dialogue, plot and a proper ending, LOL. What does $65 million sound like when it's going down a Times Square gutter? What happy investors they must have on their hands.
