Scoop: 20/20 on ABC - Friday, August 11, 2017

While the defendants claimed self-defense, today a jury unanimously found 33-year-old Molly Martens Corbett and her 67-year-old father, ex-FBI agent Tom Martens, guilty of second-degree murder in THE KILLING of her husband, Irish-born Jason Corbett, two years ago at their home in North Carolina.

"20/20" will air a special hour on the case with Correspondent Linzie Janis featuring exclusive pre-trial interviews with both father and daughter, along with never-before-seen crime-scene evidence and a secret audio recording Molly made to document her troubled marriage. "20/20" airs on FRIDAY, AUGUST 11 (10:00-11:00 p.m. EDT), on ABC.

According to prosecutors, Molly was an emotionally volatile woman who, with her father's help, killed her husband in their home. The defense insisted that it was an act of self-defense - that Jason was an abusive, dangerous man who allegedly attacked Molly the night of the murder, and Tom killed him with a baseball bat to protect his daughter. But the forensic evidence appeared to contradict the father and daughter's accounts, and today, the jury convicted Molly and Tom of intentionally killing Jason and sentenced them to 20-25 years in prison, deciding to go further than a voluntary manslaughter charge that was also up for consideration.

"20/20" is anchored by Elizabeth Vargas and David Muir. David Sloan is senior executive producer.
