In 2008, Fox auditioned for the role of Elphaba on Broadway in an open cattle call. After many subsequent callback auditions in both San Francisco and New York, she began work as an understudy for Eden Espinosa's Elphaba in San Francisco in 2010. During her year in this role, she went onstage twice.
Fox then moved to New York and again worked an hourly job until 2012, when she joined Wicked's national tour as a standby for Elphaba. In 2014, she assumed the tour's lead role.
Fox worked as the standby for Elphaba on Broadway after the tour concluded. She remained in this role until 2023, with the exception of a two-year period—March 2018 to March 2020—during which she worked as the standby for Elsa in the Broadway production of Frozen.
In March 2023, Fox took over the role of Elphaba on Broadway.
