ALL MY SONS
American Players Theatre
8/9-9/28/2013
The Keller family struggles with a real-life willing suspension of disbelief in a community rocked by war, scandal and one very specific combination of the two. And this is an honest-to-God neighborhood, where denizens start and end their lives on the same block; where grape juice and gossip are never more than a few steps away. These are not the kings and queens usually seen on our stage. But neighborhoods have royalty of their own, with crowns forged in business, poker games and hot apple pie. In such a community, every family is a subset of the whole. And every family has its secrets. All My Sons is a mystery in the guise of family drama - one not without hope. But then, we're suckers that way.

ROSENCRANTZ AND GUILDENSTERN ARE DEAD
American Players Theatre
8/2-10/5/2013
Tom Stoppard makes his debut on our Hill with the play that first put him on the map. Take a peek around the corners of Hamlet with bit players Rosencrantz and Guildenstern as they explore the expansive palace of Elsinore, and their own odd little friendship. Bard-lovers take note: this is not Hamlet II. Sure, our moody Prince makes an appearance now and again, bringing with him moments of glorious Shakespearean poetry. But here, he's the extra. And why not? The Hamlets of the world don't corner the market on the big questions. Kings and jesters alike ponder loyalty, identity and free (or not-too-free) will. Rosencrantz and Guildenstern admirably shoulder the existential goods for all us players in a way that's at once endearing, savage and very, very funny.

ANTONY AND CLEOPATRA
American Players Theatre
8/11-10/20/2013
Antony and Cleopatra is a love story with the power to shatter nations. (Sound hyperbolic? Trust us, it's not.) But reality has a way of intruding on romance, and love isn't the only force at work here. Shaky political alliances, ambition and war threaten the borders of Cleopatra's beloved Egypt. And as Antony scorns his duty to the Roman Empire from the soft harbor of his lover's bed, the aspiring young ruler Octavius Caesar circles them like a hungry cat, the balance of power shifting with the unreliable desert sands. This story is no less than epic, spanning decades and continents. And yet, as we bring Shakespeare indoors for the very first time at APT we find that it's also shockingly intimate. A seven-character adaptation that distills and transcends, offering a chance to sit up close to Shakespeare's hottest couple and experience their every bellow and sigh.

G2K ONCE UPON A MATTRESS
Fireside Dinner Theatre
9/5-10/27/2013
The 'G2K' Getting To Know Series: Uniquely adapted musicals specifically for youth performers. If you thought you knew the story of 'The Princess and The Pea,' you may be in for a walloping surprise! Did you know, for instance, that Princess Winnifred actually swam the moat to reach Prince Dauntless the Drab? Or that it may not have been the pea at all that caused the princess a sleepless night? Carried on a wave of beguiling songs, by turns hilarious and raucous, romantic and melodic, this rollicking spin on the familiar classic of royal courtship and comeuppance provides for some side-splitting shenanigans. Chances are, you'll never look at fairy tales quite the same way again. In this adaptation for pre-high school students, the content has been edited to better suit younger actors and audiences, but all the magic, hilarity and fun of the original are still in place. G2K? ONCE UPON A MATTRESS is the perfect show to introduce young people to the magic of live theater. PLEASE NOTE: All schools wishing to peruse or perform a G2K musical should apply through theMusic by Mary Rodgers; Book by Jay Thompson & Dean Fuller & Marshall Barer; Lyrics by Marshall Barer; Adapted by Tom Briggs
