PRINCESS BRIDE Set for Orpheum Summer Movie Series, 8/1

Fan favorite The Princess Bride will return to the Orpheum big screen Friday, August 1st at 7:00 PM as part of the Orpheum's Summer Movie Series, presented by Orion Federal Credit Union. For this special screening, the Orpheum is partnering with Tennessee Shakespeare Company (TSC) to entertain patrons with swashbuckling sword fights before the film.

"Of course there is much more to Shakespeare than sword-play alone, but stage combat is one of many aspects of our craft on which TSC prides itself, both on the stage and in the classroom," says TSC's Founder and Producing Artistic Director Dan McCleary. "We are excited to partner with the Orpheum and share this performance skill with fans of the film."

Guests are invited to arrive early to learn the basics of stage combat from TSC teaching artists in the Orpheum lobby. TSC will also perform a choreographed sword fight presentation on the Orpheum stage prior to the start of the feature. Costumes are encouraged, and a movie-themed "selfie station" will be available to patrons. Doors open at 6:00 PM.

An enchanting fairy tale with a modern twist, The Princess Bride, directed by Rob Reiner, has everything from pirates to pitch-perfect comedic timing. When a kindly grandfather reads his sick grandson a classic tale of love and adventure, the action comes alive! As the beautiful Buttercup, engaged to the odious Prince Humperdinck, is kidnapped in order to start a war, it is up to farmer-turned-pirate Westley to save her. Westley crosses swashbuckling paths with a thief, an accomplished swordsman, a giant, a six-fingered man, and many other memorable characters on his quest to reunite with his true love. This feature is rated PG.
