Elton John Readies for Gnomeo and Juliet Sequel

Elton John will compose the music for a sequel to Disney's and Rocket Picture's Gnomeo and Juliet, subtitled Sherlock Gnomes.

Deadline reports that the film will follow the gnomes as they attempt to unravel the cause of mysterious garden figurine disappearances.

Elton John composed the music for the first film, which gave a garden gnome twist to the classic Shakespeare Romeo and Juliet tale and starred the voice talents of James McAvoy, Emily Blunt, Michael Caine, Patrick Stewart, Ozzy Osbourne and Maggie Smith. The film grossed $194 million worldwide. Its original writers, Andy Rile and Kevin Cecil, are returning to write the script for the sequel.

Elton John composed the music for the Academy Award winning Broadway version of Disney's The Lion King. More recently, Billy Elliot, for which John wrote the music, won the 2009 Tony Award for Best Musical. John also produced 2010's Broadway production of Next Fall. Other Broadway shows to use his music include Lestat, Disney's Aida, Rock 'N Roll! The First 5,000 Years, and Bette Midler's Clams on the Half Shell Revue.
