Sony Pictures Home Entertainment, Universal Pictures, and Warner Bros. Home Entertainment Choose Dolby for the Sound of UltraViolet Content
Dolby Laboratories, Inc., a pioneer in advancing the science of sight and sound to make entertainment more engaging and lifelike, today announced that Sony Pictures Home Entertainment, Universal Pictures, and Warner Bros. Home Entertainment will encode thousands of movies and television programs in the UltraViolet Common File Format (CFF) using Dolby Digital Plus, the premium audio standard for mobile and connected entertainment.
UltraViolet provides consumers with a unique way to conveniently enjoy their movies and TV shows. By taking full advantage of the benefits of the cloud, consumers can download and stream their entertainment collections anytime, anywhere for viewing on TV screens, personal computers, tablets, and mobile phones. Once the UltraViolet CFF launches later this year, Sony Pictures Home Entertainment, Universal Pictures, and Warner Bros. Home Entertainment will deliver thousands of movies and TV series with Dolby Digital Plus sound. Already the choice of leading online movie services that deliver surround sound, Dolby Digital Plus ensures that UltraViolet consumers can enjoy the experience the artist imagined. Dolby Digital Plus is currently enabled across more than one billion devices in the marketplace.

The UltraViolet CFF improves the efficiency of the content-supply chain while greatly enhancing how consumers experience their favorite entertainment. It also empowers consumers to move or copy a downloaded CFF file directly among UltraViolet CFF-compatible media player apps and hardware devices from multiple brands, allowing them to play the downloaded movies they own on their mobile, tablet, PC, and connected devices without having to download the content multiple times.
