New York City Opera Presents WHERE THE WILD THINGS ARE - 4/9/2011

NPH Joins NY Philharmonic for COMPANY Concert - 4/9/2011

The New York Philharmonic will present Stephen Sondheim's groundbreaking Company, with an all-star cast led by Neil Patrick Harris, star of the hit television series, How I Met Your Mother, on April 7-9, 2011. The award-winning musical will be produced and directed by Lonny Price, who directed and co-produced last season's SONDHEIM: The Birthday Concert!, and will be conducted by Sondheim specialist Paul Gemignani, with the original orchestrations for a 35-piece orchestra by Jonathan Tunick. More details will be announced at a later date.

DAISY Extends with Redgrave, Jones, Gaines - 4/9/2011

With the playwright at their side on stage at the Golden Theatre, producers Jed Bernstein and Adam Zotovich announced today that Alfred Uhry's Pulitzer Prize-winning play, Driving Miss Daisy, will extend its Broadway premiere engagement through April 9, 2011, making it the only play this season that will be running into the spring. The play's three acclaimed stars, Tony Award-winners James Earl Jones, Vanessa Redgrave and Boyd Gaines, will all remain with the production. Directed by David Esbjornson, Driving Miss Daisy opened on Broadway at the Golden Theatre (252 West 45th Street) on October 25, 2010, where it has since broken all house records. The production was previously scheduled to run through January 29, 2011.

James, Case, et al. Set for HANDS ON A HARDBODY Reading - 4/9/2011

La Jolla Playhouse will present a reading of its commissioned musical Hands on a Hardbody, written by Pulitzer Prize-winner and 2011 Playhouse Gala Honoree Doug Wright (I Am My Own Wife), Amanda Green (High Fidelity) and Trey Anastasio of the popular band Phish. Directed by Neil Pepe (Speed-the-Plow) and choreographed by Benjamin Millipied (BLACK SWAN), the Hands on a Hardbody reading will take place in New York on April 8th and 9th (by invitation).

Lincoln Center Theater (under the direction of Andre Bishop, Artistic Director, and Bernard Gersten, Executive Producer) announced three productions that it will produce during the 2010-2011 season at the Vivian Beaumont Theater and on Broadway. The first, a musical version of the Pedro Almodóvar film WOMEN ON THE VERGE OF A NERVOUS BREAKDOWN, with book by Jeffrey Lane, music and lyrics by David Yazbek and direction by Bartlett Sher, will begin previews Saturday, October 2 when it will reopen the newly restored Belasco Theatre (111 W. 44 Street). Opening night is Thursday, November 4.

La MaMa and The Public Theater (Artistic Director Oskar Eustis, Interim Executive Director Joey Parnes) will begin previews on Wednesday, April 13 for the return engagement of the acclaimed Belarus Free Theatre. The group will perform encore performances of BEING Harold Pinter and ZONE OF SILENCE, which were sold-out hits at this year's Under the Radar Festival, as well as the New York premiere of DISCOVER LOVE.
