An unprecedented effort will take place on Sunday, March 11 when New York City’s leading theatre companies, including Atlantic Theater Company, Lincoln Center Theater, Manhattan Theatre Club, New York Theatre Workshop, The Play Company, Playwrights Horizons and The Public Theater, will join forces to present Shinsai: Theaters for Japan, a two performance benefit to raise funds that will go directly to Japanese theater artists devastated by last year’s great earthquake (Shinsai). Shinsai: Theaters for Japan, will be performed for two performances only at 3pm and 8pm at the Great Hall at Cooper Union (Seventh Street at Third Avenue).

The Mottola Group and The Dodgers Developmental Lab are now seeking actors for a March 12 - April 14, 2012. Chorus auditions will be held on January 24, 2012 at Chelsea Studios. This workshop is being held in anticipation of a future Broadway run as the notice states. Bill T. Jones is on board to direct and choreograph.

On March 11 and March 17, 2012, Long Beach Opera (LBO) will perform two comic examples of opera at its most absurd, Francis Poulenc’s The Breasts of Tiresias and Bohuslav Martinu’s Tears of a Knife. Sung in English with English supertitles and staged at the intimate Center Theater in Long Beach, the operas are sure to confound, enchant, and amuse. Ken Roht (The Good Soldier Schweik) returns to LBO to direct these surreal works along with Ani Maldjian, Robin Buck and Suzan Hanson in starring roles. A highlight of the production will be sculptures and masks designed by artist Wen Wen Hsu.

The limited three-week engagement will play March 1 – 17 at the Connelly Theatre (220 East 4th Street), opening night Sunday, March 4. With sketches and lyrics by Arnold B.
