T. Fredericks - This was one amazing play. it was an emotional roller coaster from the opening. The tap dancing that starts off the show is a reminder of the great dancers of the 30's and 40's; literally like watching the hoofers like Fred Astair's agility and grace and even Sammy Davis Jr's leaps and plain fun. I have now seen it 2 times and saw even more on the 2nd night. The singing left me breathless a few times and crying on others. Fast paced - yes, funny, yes, heart warming, yes. A few must see dance numbers is the ghosts in the coffin scene - hold on. it has an African beat with a twist, the orphans number on "meat" and using wooden spoons makes you want to join in. So with song, dance, an emotional story line that is as real today as it was in the 20's or 20's or 40's - this is a hit!!

BWW EXCLUSIVE: CARRIE Coming Back to Broadway 2010/09/17

John - One shouldn't dismiss Carrie as impossible. It may never be a great work of genius, but now, with a cult following and a better understanding of why it was so horrible/awesome the first time, the show is surely reworkable into something people can pay attention and enjoy for its great aspects. Also, I always liked "Don't Waste The Moon." It's a shame to hear they've removed it.

Jose Garcia - Except for the singing, it was the worst of all possible worlds! The orchestra was weak at its best. Props were either loudly dropped off stage or accidentally fell down from above, curtains were stuck and then removed by a visible yet unwelcome hand. Lyric's Butterfly was visually plagiarized early on during the second act, shortly before the production had to be stopped due to malfunctioning stage craft. The audience was actually asked to leave the house for more than a half hour, causing some theater goers to leave. The set was stark. Altogether a very bad night.

Suzette F. - Fantastic! This is what broadway musicals are about...thrilling, inspiring and surprising. From the powerful opening number till the last, it was filled with the most amazing musical score and dance interpretation ...one moment after the next. A truly memorable roller coaster ride of an experience. The muscial score was so moving each piece is a stand alone number that singers will love to perform. Bravo!

Addison DeWitt - I was there opening night and although I liked the piece, it sure needs some work. Too many songs and frankly, not enough dancing. But most importantly, it's the book that needs a lot of work. There's a story for certain, but the emotional impact doesn't land and that's because the focus of the piece, despite the title, is not on the young Master Twist. It's on a melange of characters who supposedly influence him yet he's never played by the young man with any real sense of purpose to learn who he is. I might suggest that the point of view for the audience is Twist and therefore he needs to be impacting whether he's in a scene or not. I also felt like Della is a break out character and a tour de force role. Yet she's in and out. Once she births that baby she has to be conflicted and much more engaged in keeping him safe. I liked the musical. it was too long, but once Debbie Allen let those dancers rip it on the floor, I was hooked.

BWW EXCLUSIVE: CARRIE Coming Back to Broadway 2010/09/17

Ray Workman - Bringing CARRIE back to Broadway makes about as much sense as bringing back DUMAS AND SON, 1491, PICKWICK, LOVELY LADIES, KIND GENTLEMEN, GONE WITH THE WIND (The Stage Musical), or ANY number of Broadway musical flops of the past. Why not revive COCO with Nancy Reagan, Barbara Bush or Barbara Walters? Some shows need to STAY BURIED. Remember when some flops "Opened and Closed at the same performance?" That doesn't happen so much these days as most shows open with several months prepaid in the bank.

BroadwayGirlNYC: Luck of the Lotto 2010/09/02
Posted: 9/19/2010
Jay - Nice in theory --- but Broadway is not philanthropic, it's a money-maker. The Producers offer a certain number for Lotto, and I'm quite sure they've crunched the numbers to know exactly how much money they're willing to "lose" to encourage attendance, stoke word-of-mouth buzz, and create even more demand for the show. Perception is almost as important as money, so if the perception is that this elusive ticket or lottery is hard to get, that only inspires people to want it more, and vouches for the show being worth the waiting, clawing and crying to get in. Producers are smart and they wouldn't be in the business if not to make as much of their money back as possible, and that only goes so far when you're giving it away. They're nice but they're not that nice!

Melissa J. - I felt the production had great songs and choreography. It was a bit overloaded with music and the subject matter felt too dated. New Orleans has always had a huge amount of bi-racial people. I read that the author of Twist wrote this some time ago. He might have had more bi-racial people in the production. Anyway, I hope they work out the kinks, because I read they want it to go to Broadway.

rmorris - totally agree! she was incredibly rude tonight. no longer a fan of hers after tonight. the show was ok - still needs major work tho if it wants to have a shot at broadway. songs need to be reworked, stronger singers, less meaningless dancing. at least one more out of town try out, unless it wants to be like "Glory Days" and only have one day open before an embarrassing closing notice.

laura k - where was the jazz? all i found myself doing was singing "im every woman" and "i will survive" to about half of the numbers... I also did not like the way the director created a scene at tonight's performance. apparently there were some technical issues in the first half - if it wasnt for HER DISTRACTION no one around me would have even noticed. sure things happen- its live theater that's what part of the thrill is - her reaction and childish behavior tonight made me embarrassed for the company of actors. they had their spot light taken away because she couldnt sit still or stop complaining about things that were out of everyones hands. there is only so much that front of house can do. considering the fact that until i heard all of bracelets moving in frustrate and disgust, i wouldnt have noticed means they were doing a good job. i feel bad - i was enjoying the show until her. she ruined it for me. i will not be recommending this to friends.

This is my second time seeing "Fela". I absolutely love it, and plan on seeing it....that's right......again!! It's that good. The energy of the show flows right through your soul. The dancers are off the chain, and Sahr Ngaujah is a phenomenal actor in the play. He gets into character and you feel like it's really "Fela Kuti". Great musical, and love the music!!

Don Treact - Or on the night before, after the last Jessica Fletcher episode had unexpectedly shown up. An extra prediction would only have been writen then if the inserted one was the first episode of the night, and I just don't have the paperwork here to check whether it was. But the prediction which covers the first Jessica Fletcher episode could not have been written more than 24 hours before that first episode finally showed up on Hallmark. That is one thing settled. But now there is the question of whether seeing the last Jessica Fletcher episode caused the belief that Hallmark might be feeling generous enough, as it had apparently not been feeling in the prior two runs of episodes, to begin the third run with the first Jessica Fletcher episode. So there will be a look into the predictions leading to the one most in question.

Don Treact - But, when Hallmark did insert that unexpected episode, it created a condition defined by that there could well be a second unknown episode coming up after it, that night. Thus a new prediction had to be quickly handwriten per S.E.C. guidelines, but it wasn't needed since the second episode that night had been predicted and seen in the first run in '07. This whole thing happened a second time, unexpected episode insert, use of the held back prediction to cover it, writing a quick new prediction in case it meant there would be another inserted and so unknown episode after it. As with the first inserted episode night, it was a unique case, and so the extra prediction remained with its potentiality, until it had to be used to cover an episode shown the night of June 23, '08 which is the last actual Jessica Fletcher episode broadcast and was not shown in the first or '07 run. And all of this leads to what? It leads to that there is no reason to believe that the handwritten prediction for the night after that, which turned out to be the first Jessica Fletcher episode finally showing up, was not done fresh on that very night.

Don Treact - When the governor of Tennessee commuted the death penalty for the female inmate, what changed in that part of the room was that Rebecca of Sunnybrook Farm in hardcover was taken off the top of the Taylor Caldwell paperbacks that are below REESE, and placed under several of them. Returning to the questions that there are about the handwritten prediction for the first Jessica Fletcher episode, shown on Hallmark on June 24, '08. In a very few instances during the second run of the episodes, Hallmark would insert unexpectedly an episode that had not been shown in the first run, which ended at the end of '07. But since Hallmark's decision to reshow the first run was itself not known as '08 started, an extra prediction from that point remained in potentiality status. It was used to cover Hallmark's first unexpected episode insertion of the second run.

Don Treact - So, the predictions were made on the front of a five and a half inch wide, eight and a half inch tall, magazine-like piece of folded paper. Those predictions the S.E.C. blocked from being made (and their episodes seen) will, ultimately, be made in this format. On how things appear, the white manila envelopes are in a neat stack in the bottom shelf of a set of seven shelves which were built into a foot-wide part of what was closet space. Below that part is another such set of shelves, only four of them, larger and deeper. Between is a three inch irregular space not yet covered by decorative molding work. It happens to have in it a children's book in the series The Babysitter's Club, about disasters when forming a baseball team. It was picked up from the leavings area of a library, and has the name REESE written in black felt pen letters along its page sides. That shows, then below it are the Taylor Caldwell novels not read, in the first actual shelf below REESE.

Bunnie Taft - I went to the premier of this movie in Toronto and absolutely loved it!! I loved the humor, the love of a child, young man actually, for his mother, the showing of how hypocrisy happens in all religions and towns. I laughed, I cried, and I felt pity and sympathy. All the cast were just wonderful, but Jennifer really showed us what a great actress she is. Thank you Lance Black for such a great film.

Don Treact - More on that in a bit (it involves changing some words in the handwritten prediction for what turned out to be the first Jessica Fletcher episode finally being shown on Hallmark from words that this web site automatically censors, because they connote ways individuals can be invited to attempt to gain financially without what one might call ordinary work). Don't leave loose ends. The governor of Tennessee commuted the death penalty for a female inmate, post 59 I believe. How does this relate to things that appear? The predictions for the Jessica Fletcher episodes have been getting cleaned up, removing preliminary notes and dating those separately, photocopying the original per clean single format: the prediction, the notes on the episode, subsequent notes. Those are in white manila envelopes. Actually they will be folded across the long way, creating a 5 and a half inch wide magazine-style format that's eight and a half inches tall, so that the prediction is on the front, the episode notes continue to the back, then the inside of the back, and if necessary the bottom part of the inside of the front.

Nick Mayor - I actually watched the movie two weeks ago for the first time in ages and thought that this deserves a remake. The subject matter could not have been fully realized given how long ago it was made and this story is more timely today....an actress making her comeback and fleeing the paparazzi; a hustler trying to make it overnight in show business; and the hipocrisy of conservative politics. I can't wait. Kidman is a perfect choice! I hope the play succeeds and a film version is made. Generally I don't care for remaking old films but if you take a second peek, there are lots of cheesy effects in the original.

Nick Mayor - This show deserved a better production. I love Hayes but we should not settle for a sitcom star who is simply competent, particularly in the vocal department when the role is written for a very powerful voice. Chenoweth is a MAJOR talent but is way too old and too big a presence to restrain in this part. At least the show looks pretty good.

Zanna - David Cromer is an absolute genius. Brilliantly creative thinking-outside-the-box genius. I saw OUR TOWN a few days before it closed and I don't have superlatives good enough for this guy. Looking forward to seeing what he does with SBOY and Tennesse Williams. :)

Curry Turns Down Rocky Horror GLEE Appearance 2010/09/16

Rockyfan - While it's disappointing for the viewers to hear that Tim Curry has turned it down, it is his choice and I can respect that for whatever reason. However, Matt Morrison has already worked with Terrence Mann as Frank during the revival and Terrence Mann is currently being underused on Broadway in The Addams Family. Give the viewers a real treat and ask Mann. He was a great Frank! Maybe he might consider it and we won't miss Tim Curry. Not only does he have the acting savvy, Mann and Curry are even close look-a-likes.

CPB - Off-Broadway is actually more believable for this project...at first, lower start up costs, chance to build word of mouth and work on the show. However, Carrie is a title that has become a brand in the 22 years since the original Broadway production. If it can build good buzz off Broadway and move (In The Heights, Avenue Q..both with far less recognizable titles) I can see Broadway as the ultimate goal. Starting Off-Broadway also forces them to keep the show more intimate and not get lost in the scope of a director with a Broadway budget and space to work with. I have always thought this show would work if it stripped away the gaudy over produced effects and really told the story with the beautiful songs you do have in the piece (I Remember How Those Boys Could Dance, And Eve Was Week, Carrie, Open Your Heart, Unsuspecting Hearts), there could be a hit in there somewhere.

twinbelters - "Don't Waste The Moon" is the name of the terrible song, and it has been cut from workshop readings. I hope they find an angle on it and don't make it into an incoherent mess. It's tricky source material, and could work with some intelligent adaptation--unlike the original RSC production.

twinbelters - 1970s Public Theater hit??? Someone needs to check their facts. It was a 1980s Public Theater produced flop that transferred to Broadway and flopped once more. Beautiful show, though! I can see why they would hope an audience would catch on.

todd - I have seen Vegas working girls before and those girls are just trashy cocktail waitresses that don't have what it takes to strip. I agree with Jessica, Rick's has the hottest girls.

harriscory22 - Tia Tequila was supposedly calling out Kid Rock, but after reviewing the video Im convinced that guy is a fraud. Tia Tequila is a ridiculous excuse for fame. The blonde has a nice ass, but the face and the rack have to go. She looks like she is over forty.

Tammi - Jessica, it's true. Vegas doesn't really have that many good looking girls. Most of them have to be flown in all the others cocktail and bartend. I dance at Ricks Caberet and the girls there are hot.

Namo - Were you there, Joe? Because the "entire" score was not amazing. "Don't Blame the Moon" was a particularly large serving of terrible with a generous helping of awful sauce on top. But, you know, good luck to em. Maybe they can make something of it. I did like the way the interview is done like a high school newspaper article in keeping with Carrie's milieu.

Ronan - Deirdre Kinahan has written 14 plays to date and does not shy from impressive, engaging and memorable theatre. She goes 'outside the lines' with brave yet grounded material which will charm any audience. This short but brilliant piece will satisfy any soul and should not be missed. Be the first to see Deirdre's debut in New York. A fitting venue for her American premiere. Enjoy and with some Irish luck, next up will be 'Moment'.

Bruce Winston - This was one of the best "Musicals in Mufti" that I have ever seen because of Andrea Marcovicci. Someone should consider hiring her to do a full scale production of this rarely seen Alan Jay Lerner-Andre Previn musical. She is both charming and persuasive in the role of Coco Channel with a real fashion sense.

joe - It didn't flop because it was horrible.... it was a combination of things... but the SCORE was always amazing... the problems were with the book, the staging, publicity, marketing, budget, direction. The score was amazing, youtube it if you don't believe me. It should have been advertised as a dark piece not as a happy-horrible musical. Think "Dialogue of the Carmelites" not "Les Miserables."

@davitperez - I'm a south park fan and an LDS. I really liked "all about the mormons" and I hope this is a great musical but you guys have to realize that Trey and Parker just want to be funny. Even if that means not having real facts on their work like in the south park episode where they said stuff that were lies. I really hope is good and I wish I could go see it, I only hope they don't lie and if they do I hope people are not stupid enough to believe everything because then you're only being brainwashed just as people say mormons brainwash people. It's just comedy not serious stuff, if you're looking for serious, watch this, try and answer the question he asks and then SHUT UP. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ebOte12gEwk
