I can't wait to get the book and relive all those great memories of the show and her remarkable career and life.

jacob - Sounds like a bitter "actor" lashing out at "out-of-town" hires. The performances from 90% of the cast were inspired and the other 10%, definitely serviceable. But more importantly, the story of the family and the times was/is beautiful.

@carlofiorletta - Reposting to mention Blessed Unrest here for twitter and the like : Midsummer Night's Dream here. Amazing production of this Shakespeare classic. Jessica Burr provides direction that sizzles and smokes on stage as the weather gets warmer in our human world. Many actors of particular note include Laura Wickens , Davina Cohen, Scott Barrow and Vaishnavi Sharma. I was happy to hear that this run was extended. You must see it. This version is not for children.

LOOPED to Close this Sunday on Broadway 2010/04/05
Posted: 4/6/2010
Sandee Kostoff - Thank goodness this travesty is closing! The show is off the mark, is insulting, inaccurate, berates the amazing Tallulah. She was ill with early stages of pnuemonia when she went in for redoing the line, hence the coat, and her appearence and speech pattern etc. This protrayal is cruel beyond words. Tallulah was an ultimate actress, and loved to catch people off guard ... but the real person was amazingly kind, caring, and was involved in so many positive causes for the rights of minorites. One very famous rock group had to come in 19 days to redo a line in a recording! Valerie, you and your husband should really be ashamed of the image you have protrayed for a "real actress" that is considered a true legend.

The cynical antagonist is a suburban bible thumper who allows her pastor husband to beat their son! There is no real humanity to this productions synopsis and no reason why it should be a glee-ful interpretaion of the real scandals that envelope a compelling story of love and acceptance!

Wayne Dyrness - I saw the show last night. This is one of the best stage shows I've seen. Everything, and I mean everything was top-notch, first-class, and professional. The staging and costumes were gorgeous. The music was articulate and skillfully played. The lead female and male soared with ease between upper and lower registers. Even the small roles were delightfully and skillfully played. We laughed throughout the entire play. I can't say enough about how much I enjoyed this play!

Nick Mayor - Don't make it sound like the most acclaimed musical of all time is deficient or the authors are guilty of some sort of slight. And the choice of the word lovely is inappropriate and somewhat condescending. Gypsy is not Brigadoon or some Cole Porter show. The focal character is Rose and it was not the collaborators intent to make the show all about June.

It was a laugh riot and I guess Isherwood lost his sense of humor somewhere on the way to the theatre. Although consider the source, did you see his rave review for the completely underwhelming cruise-ship show, Come Fly Away? Word of mouth means more than his ink anymore anyway, I think the show will do well based on that alone.

john - I think his review was right on point! The show was completely miscast, and the unfunny cast managed to turn one of the greatest farces of all time into two and a half hours (the show when done properly should only run 2 hours) of bland exhibition. Blah!!!!! Half of the actors had no idea what type of character they were supposed to be playing, and the energy on stage was very much lacking. Not a good revival - and I sooooooooo wanted it to be a GREAT revival uncovering subtleties that were never discovered till now. :(

The Actors' Playhouse Will No Longer Present A NIGHT IN VEGAS 2010/04/02
Posted: 4/5/2010
TheatreLover - I saw this company's production of The Gayest Christmas Pageant Ever at The Actors' Playhouse last December and it was hilarious. A group of 7 of my friends and I had tickets to see Vegas, so I'm not sure I believe that only 10 tickets were sold. (Where did you hear that?) This play also won a few awards, had good reviews last year in Indianapolis, and looked pretty good. I would see it if I had the chance. This company has been around since 1991, and based on The Gayest Christmas Pageant Ever they have had success in NYC. And my roommate is friends with the producers of My Trip Down The Pink Carpet , another LGBT play that wanted to move into the Actors' Playhouse. Both of these shows had very similar issues with the new owners of the playhouse, and when the "real" story comes out I think we will all realize what is really sad is that the Actors' Playhouse no longer supports the LGBT community. Apparently the new owner and his assistant are not very gay friendly and are trying to change this historic theatre into a night club and it is no longer suitable for staged productions (they removed all the theatre seating and it now has couches and high-backed chairs for about 40 people, all on one level, some facing away from the stage, with a large bar right next to the stage). So sad. Someone who understands theatre and appreciates the importance of the Actors' Playhouse needs to buy the playhouse from these guys and fix it!

Lukaba Productions Takes Over Theatre Building Chicago 2010/03/19
Posted: 4/5/2010
JustMe - Looks like the guy who is the manager of 1225 West Belmont LLC is also the registered agent for Lukaba and is a CPA. TBC looks like they have about a $400k mortgage to pay off. After that they should have some capital for awhile. Right now TBC does not pay any property taxes since they are a Not For Profit. This would likely change when the LLC buys the building. So, if TBC is having any kind of cash flow issues with a fairly low mortgage (compared to the value of real estate in that area) and no taxes, where will this put the LLC when they have a (likely) higher mortgage and property taxes to pay? Will theater companies be able to afford to rent there? I would hate to see TBC go by the wayside because of this. Just my opinion.
