Win BIG from Kirstie Alley's Big Life on A&E 2010/03/15
Posted: 4/11/2010
Bri - personally, i love what kirstie alley is doing. you can tell she still loves herself even though she gained weight and she has been successful during her lifetime.unlike some people she is not in a state of depression she is taking action and control of her life. what makes me even more inspired by her is that shes actually doing it on t.v! it shows that shes not afraid of who she is but it doesnt mean that she doesnt what to improve her life and she showing us all the process. keep it up kirstie! honestly ive never watched this show but im going to start. and for all the people that are making mean comments if for some reason you dont like improving your life for yourself than click and different link and go somewhere else because you are just wasting your time because not many people care what you think and hopefully no one will even take what you say into consideration.

Jonno - The Hollywood Bowl, an 18,000 seat venue, requires a larger than life cast, and she just doesn't seem to have the theater performance chops to play the role there. "Rent" also seems an odd choice at such a large venue... I saw "Les Miserables" last summer there and it got lost in that huge space... "Les Miz"! What will happen to an intimate show like "Rent" there?

Judy - This production was wonderfully entertaining. I wish the critics would at least recognize that although this show did not appeal to them, there is a wide range of people who would LOVE this production. This is a must for families because it is funny, full of comic surprises, strong vocals which made the songs work and stage sets were first rate. Nathan Lane alone would make it worth the price of a ticket. The Addams Family is a fun, memorable evening.

Nick Mayor - What I find most daunting about the theater is when talentless people are given such great opportunities. This composer's work is just horrid, plain and simple and there was a reason The Wild Party was a FAILURE. He and David Yazbeck, who wrote the awful scores to The Full Monty and Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, should find another line of work. There are talented people out there who deserve a chance. I am sorry to see a major show flop, particularly when there is so much on-stage talent, but producers need to start with the basics and if you don't have a talented composer for a musical, then just forget it.

Kaylee Daoust - I honestly don't understand why they need to change the times. They can't even keep the episodes coming, all I keep seeing is an episode or two than repeats, and now they are going to change the time? What a way to lose viewers! ABC needs to figure their shit out sometime soon because I, and a lot of other Greys/PrivatePractice fans are getting annoyed.

Sorry you didn't like it. And I didn't hear any reports about people leaving in "droves" during the show. All the performers were excellent. Rob Evan was a magnificent Beethoven. Sang with great emotion and passion. I certainly wouldn't mind seeing it again.

Tattered - Went today to MSG for the show- we were disappointed. Everyone in our party felt the music was poor, the stilts that were used by the "humans" in the show were a good idea but were obviously awkward and clumsy looking on stage. For the most part, the performers did a pretty good job. The kids in the show were especially good and I hope that this gives them the experience needed to pursue more work in theater but what the actors had to work with as far as writing, music and choreography... well, tough to do better than they did.

Terry Carroll - My wife and I just saw this show at the Princess of Wales. I can't understand your reaction to it. I was also in high school when the original movie came out and we all thought it was a riot. I went to see the movie about ten times, and the catch phrases were used among us for years afterward. The first day the DVD was available I bought it. I was rather disturbed by the critical response from New York for the musical, but we decided to see it anyway. We loved it! The theatre literally rocked with laughter, and the entire sold out audience gave it a standing ovation. My wife, who had only seen the movie once when it first came out and really did not remember it, and my mother in law, who had never seen it enjoyed it as much as I did, We compared it to "The Producers". This was a show that we found so New York centered that it was very disappointing. Is it possible that the critics are having a Mel Brooks backlash? Are they out of touch with the public?

Guest - Webber's Garland obsession is as old and tired as the old pumpkinhead himself. There can be no "modern" Dorothy, as she is defined by a particular time and place, in a world of fantasy. He based his Eva Perone in "Evita" on Miss Garland (the "Rainbow" tour, etc.); he should leave it at that. There will never be another Miss Judy -- measuring gals against such a legend is ill-advised, pointless and hokey. Find a new legend rather than a second or third (or worse) rate imitation of an original.

Bellesbeau - An earlier post commented on not being familiar with Mandy's voice. After having see her perform in a number of shows from Dance of the Vampires, Aida, Lennon, and In the Heights, plus in concert, I can tell you firsthand that Mandy Gonzales has a voice that is so strong, beautiful, and effortless, she should have been cast as the original Elphaba. Of course, Idina and the other Elphabas have been terrific (I've see a few of them) , but after seeing the show the first time, I remember commenting that Mandy Gonzales could sing the heck out of that part and should have been the original Elphaba. As far as Elphaba not being that attractive, in the show the big deal is more about her being green, being different, rather than not attractive. Bonus: now Elphaba also has dimples and is very cute, but for all of the bigots, she'll still be green.

Bellesbeau - If you look at these photographs as indicating who has the most time on the stage, they are right on target. I saw it last week and am still not sure it delivers as well as it should, especially with such an outstanding cast. However, one thing for sure about these curtain call photographs is that they are mostly of Nathan Lane and Bebe Neuwirth which is exactly the show. Nathan Lane is very good, but everything in this show seems to be a set up for his punchlines. Bebe Neuwirth looked bored even during the amateurish dance routine obviously added to the show to surprise Morticia fans and please Bebe's, but the dance was choreographed so beneath her talent. She has a reason to looked bored. I like the fact that the photographs were done in black and white as opposed to color, but they depict too many of what appear to be the same shots of Nathan Lane and especially Bebe Neuwirth, it's like watching the photographs parents would take of their children at a school play focusing on only their own children and ignoring the rest of the cast. Just as the show underuses Carolee Campbell and Terrence Mann, so do these photographs!

Putting spoilers in the article is fine, but in the header? I had no idea there was going to be a Lady GaGa episode (and for the record, I follow a number of Glee websites and fan forums, but take care to avoid threads that warn for SPOILERS, because... that's the function of spoiler warnings), and now I'll never know the joy of being surprised by that episode's musical direction.

I have heard her live on many occasions and there are few performers who deliver consistently as she does esecially live. He albums are incredible. When I heard her sing Valley of the Dolls live, her interpretation was so powerful and intense, it moved many including me to tears. On that song alone she received a thunderous standing ovation. She outdoes Streisand, Dion and Huston....why she isn't better known is beyond me. As a person she is down to earth and treats everyone including her fans with friendliness and respect proving that you don't have to have the "nasty diva" attitude to be considered a great talent.

Olivier

Gigi - How sad! I love, love love Dame Edna and have been following her/him since 1988 when I lived in Australia. I wanted to see this show so badly, but the timing was off. Now that I can go, the show is closed. Best of luck Barry Humphries!

Vanessa Hudgens to Star as Mimi in RENT at the Hollywood Bowl 2010/04/09

Mischelle - She does of the look for a mimi, and she's actually a good age for it (Mimi is supposed to be 19, right? She could pass for that) I'm a HSM hater, and I've never really been a fan of Hudgens b/c of her squealy way of singing, but then again that's when she sang disney stuff. I'll give her a chance, b/c obviously she did something good if she was cast for it.

HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL 2 Returns to the Roxy Regional Theatre 4/9 2010/03/25

tony0040@live.com - Opening night was great and a sold out right away. I was not too pleased with Mindy Wedner's performance. She seems very uncomfortable on stage and Iacks the energy the other actors had. She is a pretty girl and sweet girl but on stage she looks out of place. The show is great and I clapped along and laughed with everyone else as Maggie Politi, Bryan Zoppi, Adrielle Belle, Chad Danforth, Zeke Baylor, and the rest of the case shined as talented stars as Mindy Wedner blended in with the Roxy's younger talent. I do have to say that I was impressed with Ryan Ploeckelman as Mr. Fulton. A local radio celebrity who shined over Mindy's performance. But please. go see it and enjoy the show. I am sure you will like it.

Elaine - I enjoyed TSO's Beethoven so much that I saw it twice in the same week--Hershey, PA and Wilkes-Barre, PA. Both my 24 yr. old daughter and my 87 yr. old mother thought the show was incredible! I am always awed by their immense talent. I can't get enough of Rob Evan's and Jeff Scott Soto's magnificent voices and am looking forward to hearing them perform Night Castle.
