Registration Now Open for 2018 WINGS FOR LIFE WORLD RUN, 5/6

Today, registration officially opens for the fifth annual Wings for Life World Run. The charity race that takes place simultaneously in locations all over world will be represented in the U.S. by Sunrise, Florida - a location that has hosted the global run since the event's inception in 2014. Up to 300,000 people are expected to join the global movement this year by running in events like the one in Sunrise or by participating remotely via the Wings for Life World Run app to raise money and awareness to find a cure for spinal cord injury.

In the five years since the Wings for Life World Run began, runners have raised millions of dollars for spinal cord injury research with the goal of one day finding a cure. Those who participate in the U.S. and around the world on Sunday, May 6 will be running for more than their personal bests with 100% of registration fees and donations going directly to spinal cord research.

The race format is not your typical running event with a set distance, instead the Wings for Life World Run has introduced the concept of a 'Catcher Car,' an innovative moving finish line that takes off 30 minutes after the start at every race location and steadily increases its speed until it passes all the participants. The presence of the car is unique to the Wings for Life World Run and often motivates runners to reach personally bests in both distance and time.

For those who can't make it to Sunrise but would still like to participate, the Wings for Life World Run app will once again be available so that runners can donate to the cause and run in a location of their choosing. The app simulates the catcher car and allows runners to join the movement wherever they're inspired to run on May 6.

Registration is now open and those interested in running can sign up via the website www.wingsforlifeworldrun.com. Participants can join the movement in Sunrise, a global location, or activate the app to choose their dream route.

About the Wings for Life World Run:

On one day each year the Wings for Life World Run is held simultaneously in numerous locations and via the App across the world, everyone starting at the same time, whether day or night, and all with the same goal - to raise money for the Wings for Life Foundation. Under its unique format, participants run as far as they can until they are passed by a moving finish line, the "Catcher Car," which chases runners along the course or virtual in the App, gradually getting faster until each participant has been caught. This moving finish line allows participants of any ability to complete the run - the slower ones are passed early while ultra-athletes go on for hours. 100% of entry fees and donations goes toward helping to find a cure for spinal cord injury; and in the four editions since it was launched in 2014, the World Run has attracted more than 435,000 people from 193 nationalities to participate in more than 58 countries across all seven continents. Altogether they have raised €20.6 million euros while covering more than 4.2 million kilometers.

The Wings for Life World Run App:

The Wings for Life World Run App allows everyone, everywhere, to join the global movement. By activating the App, runners can take part in the Wings for Life World Run, chased by a virtual Catcher Car, at the same time as all Wings for Life World Runners across the globe. People can set out their own course when running individually with the App and in many locations around the world Organized App Runs take place, where people run in groups using the App.
