Queensbury Theatre
Stephen Lang, award-winning playwright and star of stage and screen, brings the stories of eight Medal of Honor recipients to the Queensbury Theatre in his one-man hit show, Beyond Glory, adapted from Larry Smith’s stirring book, Beyond Glory: Medal of Honor Heroes in Their Own Words (2003). This one-time Hamlet and Swarthmore College graduate has become the quintessence of the American soldier. Lang has over 100 stage and screen credits; many of them representing strong military characters: James Cameron’s Avatar, Gettysburg, Terra Nova, Tombstone, Gods and Generals, The Men Who Stare at Goats and Defiance. During his reading of basketball buddy Larry Smith’s book, Lang decided he needed to bring the stories of these men to the stage; and he has. Beyond Glory has been performed thousands of times to audiences from Broadway to barracks all over the world, honoring the histories of eight heroes from World War II, Korea, and Vietnam through Lang’s 80-minute characterization of these men, supported by a backdrop of video images. A high point for Lang was a command performance on the floor of Congress to honor Medal of Honor recipient, Senator Daniel Inouye, one of the eight featured in Beyond Glory.

The Altruists in Broadway THE ALTRUISTS
The Rice Players
The Rice Players will present “The Altruists,” an exhilarating comedy reveling in political incorrectness, set among amongst a community of hipsters in New York, New York. This dark and well-meaning satire is told in the unique voice of the “bad-boy playwright of off-broadway”, Nicky Silver. The Altruists tells the story of a dedicated, if disorganized and demented, group of young radicals. These are the kids who protest. They protest arts funding and arms funding. They protest school cutbacks and AIDS cutbacks and welfare cutbacks. They march for gay rights and children’s rights and Women Against Drunk Drivers. But what will happen when their own lives smack them in the face? Come for a night of laughing out loud and fresh perspective! Directed by Susannah Morgan Eig For tickets, please call 713-348-7529 (PLAY). General Admission $10 Faculty, Staff, Alumni, and Senior Citizens $8 Students $5

Nora in Broadway NORA
Mabee Theatre - Baylor University
Since its premiere in 1879, A Doll's House has been one of the most producd plays on the modern stage, but Ingmar Bergman's fleet adaptation makes the story feel brand new. Nora Helmer's life may seem perfect--with three beautiful children, an elegant house, and a loving husband who has just been promoted, but it's all been financed with a lie--a lie hiding behind closed doors, just waiting to be thrown open. By stripping away the traditional conventions, Bergman's pared-down version cuts to the quick of Ibsen's theatrical masterwork. Whether you're familiar with the original or not, Nora is A Doll's House like you've never seen it before. Directed by Cason Murphy Based on A Doll's House by Henrik Ibsen Adapted for the stage by Ingmar Bergman Translated into English by Frederick J. Marker and Lise-Lone Marker
