A Chorus Line in Broadway A CHORUS LINE
Montgomery Arts Theater
9/13-9/23/2018
The show follows 17 would-be dancers in their quest to make the cut for a new Broadway Musical. It’s what they’ve worked for — with every drop of sweat, every hour of training, every day of their lives – for the chance to do what they’ve always dreamed of. One by one, they come forward to share the stories of their lives, putting themselves on the line to get a job in the line. When they’re done, so is the audition; and only eight will remain. A Chorus Line is the musical for everyone who’s ever had a dream and put it all on the line to make it come true – something our students do each and every day at Arts Magnet! Directed by Original Broadway Cast Member Michael Serrecchia!

An Octoroon in Broadway AN OCTOROON
Stage West
8/30-9/30/2018
The hottest play of 1859 is back…sort of. The debt-ridden Terrebonne plantation is in upheaval with a new owner, a lovely young woman with a secret, and an assortment of slaves. These antiquated plot elements have been mashed up against a contemporary framework to create an astonishing, outrageously comic, and eloquent perspective on race in America. This fascinating and hilarious, Obie Award-winning retelling of Dion Boucicault’s The Octoroon is a completely unique piece of theatre and not to be missed! Contains strong and race-based language! The Cuban and the Redhead in Broadway THE CUBAN AND THE REDHEAD
Pegasus Theatre
9/13-9/30/2018
A young Desi Arnaz sets sail from a Cuba in chaos, and embarks on a turbulent journey that leads him to Hollywood and into the arms of a fiery, redheaded movie star named Lucille Ball. In The Cuban and the Redhead, Desi and Lucy put their egos and dreams of stardom on the line in a gamble to save one thing—their marriage—risking it all on an untested and floundering new medium called television. Can these two star-crossed lovers blaze a path that defies Hollywood and history to be together? The Cuban and the Redhead, with book, music and lyrics by Robert Bartley and Danny Whitman, is a brand-new original musical that follows in the footsteps of Gypsy, Jersey Boys, Dreamgirls and Funny Girl honoring famous icons. With an original score that features sounds from 1940s Big Band to hot Latin rhythms, The Cuban and the Redhead is the story of how Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz struggled against all odds to be together and wound up making television history in the process.

Angels in America Part 2 in Broadway ANGELS IN AMERICA PART 2
Uptown Players
9/28-10/7/2018
Part two of Tony Kushner’s epic tale of AIDS in 1980s America begins in a ruined place where the old orders are splintering and everything—andeveryone—has come apart. Prior Walter is a prophet, and now the “great work” of rebuilding this devastated world can begin. We meet characters who, having faced annihilation, must now confront their own stubborn indestructability. Profoundly funny, magnificently theatrical, and startlingly timely, Perestroika is a story about locating hope in the midst of chaos. The New York Times called it “a true millennial work of art, uplifting, hugely comic and pantheistically religious in a very American style.”

Nina Simone: Four Women by Christina Ham (Regional Premiere) in Broadway NINA SIMONE: FOUR WOMEN BY CHRISTINA HAM (REGIONAL PREMIERE)
Jubilee Theatre
9/28-10/28/2018
“My skin is brown, my manner is tough...” Nina Simone’s velvet voice was unafraid to sing lyrics that cut right to the truth. From the iconic, “I Put a Spell on You” to “Feelin’ Good” to the title protest song “Four Women,” her music was a personal and political exploration branded in the killing of the Civil Rights Movement. Simone’s lyrics weave a story of four women alienated from themselves and each other due to the color of their skin. But, through it all they remain triumphant — women proud “To Be Young, Gifted and Black.” “All I want is equality for my sister, my brother, my people and me...” — Nina Simone
