TRUE BLOOD: THE MUSICAL Heading to the Stage?

According to UK's The Telegraph, a new musical is in the works based on HBO's hit series TRUE BLOOD, now in its seventh and final season.

"This was something that I pitched to HBO and (show creator) Alan Ball," shared composer Nathan Barr, who has written the instrumental scores for every season of the show. The musician shared the news at last night's True Blood premiere screening in Hollywood. He went on to reveal that the musical will center on the show's main character, telepathic waitress Sookie Stackhouse, played in the show by Anna Paquin. "I think we're really going to try to return to the roots of the show," added Barr, who hopes to present a workshop version of the musical by 2015.

"There are no guarantees," says Barr, "But I think the direction we're heading in is really exciting."

Series star Stephen Moyer, who last year starred in NBC's live broadcast of The Sound of Music opposite Carrie Underwood, shared that he recently helped the composer put together some samples of the True Blood musical presented to HBO and series creator Ball.

Mixing romance, suspense, mystery and humor, True Blood takes place in a world where vampires and humans co-exist, after vampires have come out of the coffin, thanks to the invention of mass-produced synthetic blood that means they no longer need humans as a nutritional source.

The series follows waitress and part-faerie Sookie Stackhouse (Anna Paquin), who can hear people's thoughts, vampire Bill Compton (Stephen Moyer) and vampire Eric Northman (Alexander Skarsgard).
