Menken Discusses TANGLED Stage Adaptation & Cruise Ship Edition

Menken Discusses TANGLED Stage Adaptation & Cruise Ship EditionIn a new interview in promotion of The Disney Songbook concert being held at the D23 Expo this weekend, multi-Academy Award-winning stage and screen songwriter Alan Menken announced an upcoming cruise ship stage edition of his recent hit Disney animated film TANGLED.

Menken remarked, "We're working on a cruise ship version of TANGLED and who knows if that will find its way to the stage," indicating there may be bigger plans in place for the piece.

The Broadway/Hollywood crossover composer elaborated on stage-to-screen adaptations in general, as well. "There's a limit to how many things... you don't want to over do that particular [thing]," he says of being leery of adapting too many of his hits to another medium, despite the mega-success of BEAUTY & THE BEAST and the currently-running NEWSIES on Broadway.

Additionally, Menken posits that he would particularly like to see HERCULES come to the stage sometime soon, as well, if speculating on which ones of his screen scores have the most theatrical potential.

"It would be neat to see HERCULES come [to the stage]," Menken states.
