MAMMA MIA! Ends Record-Breaking Broadway Run - 9/12/2015

Benny Andersson and Björn Ulvaeus' global smash hit musical MAMMA MIA!, inspired by the songs of ABBA, will now end its historic, record-breaking run on Broadway on Saturday, September 12, 2015, following 5,773 performances. (September 5 was the previously-announced closing date.)


LA Opera to Join Classical KUSC to Broadcast LIVE Show of Double Bill Opener - 9/12/2015

(Los Angeles) September 8, 2015 — LA Opera has partnered with Classical KUSC for the ninth consecutive year to bring the excitement of live performances to KUSC listeners. The opening night of LA Opera's 30th Anniversary Season, a double bill of Gianni Schicchi and Pagliaccibeginning at 6pm on September 12, will be broadcast locally on 91.5fm. The live broadcast will also be streamed online for audiences around the world at KUSC.org.

Julie Reyburn To Revive Award-Winning FATE IS KIND For New York Cabaret's Greatest Hits Series at Metropolitan Room, 9/14 - 9/14/2015

For the first time in 15 years, cabaret star Julie Reyburn brings back her award-winning show, Fate Is Kind, to a New York nightclub stage when she performs the classic at the Metropolitan Room on Monday, September 14 at 7 pm as part of the new monthly series, New York Cabaret's Greatest Hits, produced by Stephen Hanks' Cabaret Life Productions with cabaret supporter Fr. Jeffrey Hamblin, MD as Associate Producer. [Reyburn's show will follow the Series launch on August 26 at 7 pm with Mark Nadler's critically acclaimed Tschaikowsky (And Other Russians), which won a 2003 Bistro Award.] Reyburn and her celebrated Musical Director Mark Janas (Producer of the Award-Winning Open-Mic show Salon) introduced Fate Is Kind in February 2000 at The Singer's Forum as a benefit cabaret for their scholarship program. It then moved to Judy's Chelsea in March 2000 for its official cabaret debut, and the show ran off and on there for most of the year. Fate Is Kind world earn Reyburn MAC and Bistro Awards in 2001 for "Outstanding Female Cabaret Debut."

Geffen Playhouse has announced the cast for its West Coast premiere of THESE PAPER BULLETS! A Modish Ripoff of William Shakespeare's Much Ado About Nothing, opening the not-for-profit organization's 20th anniversary season in the Gil Cates Theater. Written by Pulitzer Prize finalist and Emmy Award nominated writer Rolin Jones (Friday Night Lights, Boardwalk Empire) with songs by Grammy Award winner Green Day frontman Billie Joe Armstrong and staged by Jackson Gay, THESE PAPER BULLETS! was commissioned by Yale Repertory Theatre where it premiered in 2014.


Memorial Service for Met Opera Radio Host Margaret Juntwait - 9/16/2015

Margaret Juntwait, American radio broadcaster, and the voice of the Metropolitan Opera radio broadcasts, debuted in this position on December 11, 2004, replacing Peter Allen upon his retirement after twenty-nine years.  She lost her life to cancer on June 3, 2015.

Rattlestick Playwrights Theater's Artistic Director David Van Asselt and Managing Director Brian Long have announced that HAMLET IN BED, written by Michael Laurence and directed by Lisa Peterson, will now open Thursday, September 17, a week later than the previously announced date of September 10. The change was made to accommodate for the holiday weekend.

Goodspeed Musicals Adds A WONDERFUL LIFE to 2015 Mainstage Season - 9/18/2015

MARCH 10, 2015: A new title has been added to Goodspeed Musicals' 2015 main stage season. A Wonderful Life, adapted from the beloved Frank Capra film “It's A Wonderful Life,” will begin this fall. Featuring book and lyrics by Tony, Grammy and Pulitzer Prize winner Sheldon Harnick and music by Grammy and Emmy Award winner Joe Raposo, this musical is sure to captivate theater-goers. A Wonderful Life will replace the previously announced production of The Honeymooners. This past November, Goodspeed presented a workshop of the show in New York where the authors and creative team were able to work on and see the show fully staged for the first time. Since then, Goodspeed has been told that the show is ready for Broadway.
