Chris Sands - Sorry...I have to say it...BAD CHOICE! Oh, don't get me wrong, its a terrific show, and I love it! But it is much too dance heavy a show. They should do...oh, I don't know...ASSASSINS, COMPANY (It IS Sondheim's 80th Birthday), GYPSY, CARNIVAL, URINETOWN.....

cc494977 - Anyone else find it odd that Merlin is on so late (as it is a "family" show), not to mention what they are following?? No wonder there aren't as many viewers as there were on NBC for season 2! I love that SyFy is showing it, but if they actually wanted more viewers they need to change the timing of the show! BTW-I've seen series 3, and it's AMAZING--especially the final episodes!

eveningblues - This may be the most arrogant review I've ever read. Here's a clue moron: if you really know anything about psychology, you'd be a psychologist. Instead you're a paultry theater critic who thought he was being cheeky by publishing this train wreck of a review. Rubens may play a somewhat childish part in this production, but it is you, my dear reviewer, who needs to grow up!

Kevin - Considering ALW and his company have continually promoted LND by saying how it is better than the original, which has been disparaged by them as "two-dimensional" and "boring"' and "the biggest piece of hokum ever written", it is not unreasonable for the audience to have such high expectations. Of course, anyone with a brain can tell that the need to put down the original like that speaks volumes about the quality of LND...

rfb059 - I echo Nori's comments above. This about John and what he believed in, not about a worthless attention seeking spec of dust that had no understanding of what John was all about. Please refrain from using his name anywhere at all, for any reason. It's bad enough that we know it at all, so lets focus on the things that were important to John, Peace and Love...

johnlennonfan221 - John Lennon believed in peace, love and harmony. His tragic death thirty years ago saddens our hearts even today. John Lennon was before my time. But I grew up listening to his music and the Beatles and I have great respect and love for all of them. Mark Chapman as George Harrison put it is "the devil's best friend". Chapman took away one of the greatest men to ever walk the earth. But he left behind his music and the words of wisdom that he shared with all of us durring his short time on earth. Mr. Lennon was asked in an interview how he thought he was going to die and he jokingly said, "By a crazed fan." Unfortunately, that had happened. We love you, John, and we miss you. The world lost you way too soon. God bless you, Mr. Lennon.

Review Roundup: BONNIE & CLYDE 2010/11/22
Posted: 12/8/2010
Larry - The BONNIE AND CLYDE musical at Asolo is not the worst show I've ever seen, but it's close. It's hard to pick which is more dreadful: the direction, the choreography, the book or the score. B&C just isn't good material for a musical. Found the score to be surprisingly unmemorable, considering it's Frank Wildhorn. Think Jeff Calhoun is the wrong director -- surprising considering the wonderful BIG RIVER he did. Very dull and repetitive lyrics by Andrew Black -- surprising considering I loved the lyrics for SUNSET BOULEVARD. The whole show is kind of tiring. Wish I had left at intermission, but I'm a "cockeyed optimist" and I thought it might get better like other shows I've ended up liking. But it truly got worse. The one terrific thing was the theatre itself, which I had never seen before. It's a lovely house that makes for intimacy and theatrical flair.

BWW Review: Rep's Brilliantly Funny Production of OVER THE TAVERN 2010/12/06
Posted: 12/8/2010
Not Impressed - I highly don't recommend this. Both of the women over acted throughout, and the 15 minute (or so it seemed) discussion on forgetting the spaghetti is anything but an upbeat pace. If you aren't over 65, many of the jokes will be missed. If you aren't ardently religious, you'll miss another good chunk of jokes. The ones that were good, were also pretty obvious and you could see them coming. It's been less than 12 hours since I got done watching the show, and I can't remember a single joke. That was a tough 3 hours, and in the end I was just glad it was over. As far as this review goes, it concerns me. If this play gets a good review, I would hate to see what would get a bad review. The Rep puts on some good shows, but this isn't one of them.

BWW Reviews: WEST SIDE STORY Soars @ the Pantages 2010/12/03
Posted: 12/8/2010
Blaine - Yeah, this is a really ridiculous, terribly biased review. Performances were lackluster all around, questionable directorial choices...this is my favorite musical of all time, I was so excited for this performance, and I've never been more disappointed in a Pantages show. It's the first show I've ever seen at the Pantages not receive a standing ovation - people were hurrying out before final curtain, completely uninterested in applauding - which is extremely rude, but I think speaks more to the caliber of the show than the manners of the audience, in this case. The only highlight was the dancing, but how wrong can you possibly go when you're sticking with the original Jerome Robbins choreography? I'm writing this review in the hopes that I can prevent someone from wasting a chunk of their money like I wasted mine. Rent the movie on Netflix instead. It's much more satisfying.

Taymor Says Work to Do on Book for SPIDER-MAN 2010/12/07
Posted: 12/8/2010
Ken - Wait ... let me understand this ... Julie Taymor thinks BROADWAY is a place to WORKSHOP her production? Even in previews, audiences are paying MEGABUCKS to see this and its not even close to being ready. What a scam these performances are and what an egomaniac Taymor is. Further, I am incensed that my union, AEA, has not put the breaks on this show until its safe and ready. Nobody believes that actress wasn't pressured into performing with a concussion. Two other performers have sustain serious, perhaps career-threatening injuries, so that Taymor can experiment and workshop her show. We have a union because actors simply cannot (and in some cases refuse) to protect themselves! This show is not ready, is asking too much of performers and technicians before they are ready and is charging audiences to see an unfinished production. Where is the integrity here?

BWW Review: Liza Lights Up San Francisco 2010/12/07
Posted: 12/8/2010
John Beebe - Dear Donna, I understand your concern, but I was in the audience at San Francisco, and I can assure you the end is nowhere in sight. Liza combined old-music hall, intimate cabaret, and main event performance with consummate professionalism and unpretentious glamor. The electricity was back in her voice, which had a new depth and breadth that radiated its maturity with real musicianship.. She was far more assured than in Minnelli on Minnelli almost a decade ago, and her feeling is better than it was when she was young and seemed embarassed by its absence. You could see the point of her hanging in there all these years: to let us experience the vitality of a soul that has paid its dues and found it place.
