Chiwetel Ejiofor Talks Shakespeare Roots & 12 YEARS A SLAVE12 YEARS A SLAVE standout and stalwart stage and screen star Chiwetel Ejiofor touches upon his Shakespeare roots and his acclaimed and already much-discussed Oscar bait screen role in 12 YEARS A SLAVE as part of a new interview.

The 2008 Laurence Olivier Award-winner for OTHELLO says that his passion for performing began at a young age - and with the Bard.

"I was 14 when I was cast as Angelo in my school's production of Shakespeare's MEASURE FOR MEASURE," Ejiofor says.

"I was a quiet kid and acting was a way of expressing myself," Ejiofor recollects.

Furthermore, Ejiofor cites his father's influence on him as to what inspired his performing side, as well.

Ejiofer states, "He was a doctor and a musician. He'll always be an influence on the kind of work I do. I think he would be proud of me."

As for his difficult 12 YEARS A SLAVE role, Ejiofor says of the challenge, "It's the most intense and challenging role of my career... the impact of his story has forever changed me."
