by Cary Ginell - Jul 22, 2019

'The Book of Mormon' came a-callin' to Thousand Oaks with its national tour - a fast-moving, crude but hilarious satire of those white-shirted, clean-cut missionaries. The clever score was written by the creators of 'South Park.' Audiences flocked to see the performance at the Thousand Oaks Civic Arts Plaza in a sold-out run. (more...)

Even on its third stand at Tennessee Performing Arts Center's Andrew Jackson Hall, The Book of Mormon - that irreverent yet heartfelt musical from Trey Parker, Robert Lopez and Matt Stone - remains just as profound and profane as you remember. And it's still so thoroughly delightful and awesomely entertaining that you might even feel as if you're seeing it for the first time. (more...)

BWW Review: Audiences Give Praise to BOOK OF MORMON at The Music Hall At Fair Park BWW Review: Audiences Give Praise to BOOK OF MORMON at The Music Hall At Fair Park
by Christina Hoth - Feb 3, 2019

The Book of Mormon swept through Dallas this week and could not have been better received by it's audiences. When auxiliary parking and bathroom breaks take enduring longer lines than those in certain sacred texts, you know the buzz about a show has hit it's peak. Wondrous comedic duo, Trey Parker and Matt Stone of South Park and Team America fame, first blessed our great nation with The Book of Mormon in 2011. The work was a daring collaboration with Robert Lopez, who we can thank for the genius music and lyrics on Avenue Q and a little song called "Let it Go" from Frozen. The story is at its core a simple tale of finding your voice and accepting one another. But true to the creator's particular brand of humor, the narrative is told through a gleefully tongue-in-cheek style production rife with vulgar humor and lewd imagery. (more...)

It is perversely funny, profane at many points, but in the end shows huge heart and calls for the virtue of love and service to your fellow man. It's not exactly a family-friendly show, but it is one your 16 year-old son would prefer to see over THE SOUND OF MUSIC. (more...)

BWW Review: THE BOOK OF MORMON Returns to Columbus and They're Still Something Incredible BWW Review: THE BOOK OF MORMON Returns to Columbus and They're Still Something Incredible
by Christina Mancuso - May 27, 2018

Hello, again.  Columbus was glutton for punishment when THE BOOK OF MORMON returned to the Ohio Theatre for another blasphemous yet gut-wrenchingly hilarious week of musical theatre genius.  This time, the audience was snickering and giggling while they shuffled in their seats before the show even began. They knew they were about to embark on a show that can say "F-You, God" and still have the Mormon church take out a full page ad in the Playbill.  This is the brilliance of South Park writers, Trey Parker and Matt Stone, along with AVENUE Q co-creator Robert Lopez, who can cleverly win over people of all faith by poking fun at the Mormons with crass language that borders sacrilege. Why? Because at its core is a heartfelt story of brotherhood and self-discovery with lovable young men finding their way in a world ruled by uniformity and restriction. (more...)

by Isa Ponturo - Nov 26, 2017

Author: Isa Ponturo. Trey Parker and Matt Stone's critically-acclaimed and smash hit satire of Mormon missionaries was one of the biggest hypes of 2011. It is one of those mainstream shows that' breaks the fourth wall' with non-thespians (Think Hamilton) and still is still one of the most popular shows in the theatre community. Sweden was the first non english speaking country to make a production of this show and it opened to raving reviews earlier this year. (more...)
