Ben Fankhauser is an American actor, singer, writer, and educator celebrated for his dynamic presence in musical theatre, television, and cabaret. A Cleveland, Ohio native and Ithaca College BFA Musical Theatre graduate, Fankhauser first captured attention in national touring productions before becoming a familiar face on Broadway and beyond.
Fankhauser made his Broadway debut originating the role of Davey in the original Broadway production of Newsies The Musical, a part he also performed in the filmed stage version of the show. His compelling performance helped solidify the musical’s spirited portrayal of the newsboys’ fight for justice.
Prior to this landmark Broadway credit, he toured nationally as Ernst in Spring Awakening, where his raw and emotive portrayal of the character on the first U.S. tour showcased his dramatic and vocal range. He went on to join the First National Tour of Beautiful: The Carole King Musical as Barry Mann, delighting audiences across the country with his portrayal of the legendary songwriter.
Fankhauser’s stage work extends to Off‑Broadway and regional theatre, with credits including Ghost of John McCain at Soho Playhouse, Bar Mitzvah Boy at York Theatre, The Flamingo Kid at Hartford Stage, Mack & Mabel (City Center Encores!), Saturday Night, The Mad Ones, and more. His regional engagements feature performances in Little Shop of Horrors, Big River, I Hate Hamlet, Next to Normal, and other beloved titles, demonstrating his versatility across musical and dramatic repertoire.
In addition to his stage work, Fankhauser is known for his engaging cabaret performances in New York City, including his solo show Ben’s Fank’d Up Broadway at Feinstein’s/54 Below, which enjoyed a sold‑out run. He is also a co‑creator and star of the original Off‑Broadway musical A Commercial Jingle for Regina Comet.
On screen, he has appeared in television roles on The Deuce, FBI: Most Wanted, Indoor Boys, and other projects. A regular contributor to theatre recordings, Fankhauser can be heard on cast albums including Newsies and numerous concept and original musical recordings.
