very still & hard to see in Broadway VERY STILL & HARD TO SEE
Death & Pretzels
2/23-3/18/2017
Steve Yockey's very still & hard to see is Death & Pretzels' 2017 season opener. This short play cycle recounts the history of a cursed hotel and the unfortunate guests who stay there. From riding in an erratic elevator and dealing with possessive ghosts to managing an ever-expanding hole in the floor armed only with cleaning supplies, these encounters with the unknown chillingly collapse the distance between the real and the surreal and remind us that, sometimes, bad things do happen for a reason. Running Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings at 7:30pm, Feb 23-25, March 2-4, 9-11 and 16-18. Featuring Katherine Bellantone, Tim Huggenberger, Iris Kohler, Nick Strauss, Joette Waters, Thomas Tong and Elaina Henderson, directed by Madison Smith. Death & Pretzels is an Artists in Residence theatre company, presenting in conjunction with Gorilla Tango Theatre. www.deathandpretzels.com

Metropolis Performing Arts Centre
2/2-3/18/2017
By Tom Stoppard Academy and Tony Award-winning playwright Tom Stoppard’s most-beloved stage work, Rosencrantz & Guildenstern Are Dead is a comical absurdist delight, acclaimed as a modern masterpiece. Rosencrantz and Guildenstern, two minor characters from Shakespeare’s Hamlet, become the stars in this inventive tale. The two are tasked with a strange mission: discovering their friend Hamlet’s vengeful intentions. Then charged with escorting the future Danish king to England they become caught in a strange scheme far beyond their own making. Comic moments unfold into surreal antics as they come to face the very nature of reality.

The World Premiere of Quest in Broadway THE WORLD PREMIERE OF QUEST
The Actors Gymnasium [nid:132084]

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rwADV4G3V0E&feature=youtu.be&list=PLiYgx5bWfyk3tLSdsEGXEnPPwEqBNp0gd Quest is an original circus-theater production loosely based on Leo Tolstoy's short story The Three Questions. The protagonist asks three simple (but huge) questions, setting in motion a whirlwind journey to find the answers. Our hero and her sidekicks venture through obstacles, misinformation, slapstick fun, unexpected detours, music and songs, near crises, and amazing feats of partnership in seek of answers. Fun, funny, surprising, action-packed, deeply moving, profoundly existential - something for everyone! EUGENE ONEGIN
Lyric Opera
2/26-3/20/2017
Intensely passionate drama set to some of opera’s most sweeping, soulful, and heartstoppingly beautiful music — that is Eugene Onegin. Tatiana is a lovesick country girl, and Onegin is the sophisticated young man who callously spurns her love before realizing, too late, what a mistake he’s made. Here is Pushkin’s profoundly human, hopelessly romantic, ultimately devastating story, elevated by Tchaikovsky’s richly layered and unabashedly expressive music. Find out why Eugene Onegin is beloved by opera audiences the world over. - See more at: https://www.lyricopera.org/concertstickets/calendar/2016-2017/productions/lyricopera/eugene-onegin#sthash.d1AKD69g.dpuf

Entangled in the addictive culture of media and technology, how do the people of tomorrow make the choice to begin consuming culture objectively. By disconnecting and reconnecting with one another, can we rise up, redefining our modern American Dream? Devised and created through movement, multimedia and satire, Consumed follows personal stories of distraction and downfall of Americans just like you. The performance will open with Spoken Word poets responding to the photo gallery by local artist that will be displayed at the theatre.

CARMEN
Lyric Opera
2/11-3/25/2017
Opera has plenty of femmes fatales, but there’s only one Carmen. Her allure proves spellbinding as she seduces a hapless corporal and then a dashing bullfighter. You’ll feel the heat as you’re captivated by Bizet’s bewitching melodies — the smoky Habanera, the playful Seguidilla, the provocative Gypsy Song. Every single melody in this ever-popular opera is a beloved hit, and each is brought to life by a cast of spectacular leading artists. Join us for this production — never before seen in Chicago — and find out why it’s the perfect work to see again and again, and the ideal opportunity to introduce new fans to the thrill of opera.

Celia and Henry are teenaged siblings living in a Midwestern suburb who both become romantically interested in the same boy - their new next-door neighbor John. This isn't the first time Celia and Henry have been romantic rivals. Will trouble strike again as the two vie for John's affections? Meanwhile, Celia and Henry's parents, David and Louise, face stress in their marriage due to David's reduction in hours as a college professor and need to take on a job as a short order cook in an all-night diner. This world premiere by the promising new playwright Sarah Sander is a warm and frequently funny look at family life in a world where all the rules have changed.

The Most Happy Fella in Broadway THE MOST HAPPY FELLA

Tony, a middle-aged Napa Valley vintner who makes a mail-order marriage proposal to Rosabella. She accepts the proposal on the mistaken assumption that the photo Tony sent along is of Tony, when it is in fact a picture of the young and handsome farm foreman Joe. It’s a touching love story that has been popular first as a non-musical play and feature film and as this musical filled with sweeping ballads, intense dramatic arias and tuneful, splashy Broadway-style numbers.
