With a career that encompasses five Grammys®, numerous chart successes, as well as collaborations with some of the world’s most prominent artists, Michael McDonald remains an enduring force in popular music. As part of the Doobie Brothers, McDonald was a singer, keyboardist, and songwriter on such Top 40 singles as “Takin’ It To The Streets,” “It Keeps You Runnin’,” “Minute By Minute,” and “What A Fool Believes.” McDonald’s solo career took off with a string of hits including “I Keep Forgettin’ (Every Time You’re Near),” “Sweet Freedom,” “On My Own” (with Patti LaBelle), and the Grammy®-winning James Ingram duet “Yah Mo B There.” McDonald’s newest release, Wide Open, is his first album of original material in 17 years.

The Adelphi Orchestra now in its 65th season of Music for All, presents A Young Person’s Concert under the baton of Guest Conductor Jason Tramm. The Concert features Prokofiev’s Peter and the Wolf, Op. 67 narrated by American Actor Geoffrey Cantor. Keila Wakao, Violin (Second Prizewinner of the Adelphi Orchestra Competition) will perform Saint-Saën’s Havanaise for Violin and Orchestra. The program opens with Rossini’s Overture to Barber of Seville and concludes with Leroy Andersons The Typewriter.

Florence Foster Jenkins, a wealthy society eccentric, suffered under the delusion that she was a great coloratura soprano when she was in fact incapable of producing two consecutive notes in tune. Nevertheless, her annual recitals in the ballroom of The Ritz-Carlton hotel (where she resided) brought her extraordinary fame. As news of her terrible singing spread, so did her celebrity. The climax of her career was a single concert at Carnegie Hall in 1944.
