Waitress in Broadway WAITRESS
Cadillac Palace Theatre
7/3-7/22/2018
Brought to life by a groundbreaking all-female creative team, this irresistible new hit features original music and lyrics by 6-time Grammy nominee Sara Bareilles ("Brave," "Love Song"), a book by acclaimed screenwriter Jessie Nelson (I Am Sam) and direction by Tony Award winner Diane Paulus (Pippin, Finding Neverland). "It's an empowering musical of the highest order!" raves the Chicago Tribune. Inspired by Adrienne Shelly's beloved film, WAITRESS tells the story of Jenna. A waitress and expert pie maker, Jenna dreams of a way out of her small town and loveless marriage. A baking contest in a nearby county and the town's new doctor may offer her a chance at a fresh start, while her fellow waitresses offer their own recipes for happiness. But Jenna must summon the strength and courage to rebuild her own life. "WAITRESS is a little slice of heaven!" says Entertainment Weekly and "a monumental contribution to Broadway!" according to Marie Claire. Don't miss this uplifting musical celebrating friendship, motherhood, and the magic of a well-made pie.

Ravinia
7/28-7/28/2018
Ravinia Festival has announced casting for its July 28 production of Leonard Bernstein’s Mass. Conductor Marin Alsop has resurrected this overlooked work with performances around the world. This production reunites her with director Kevin Newbury (who recently won raves for directing the opera Fellow Travelers and the spectaculars as New York’s Park Avenue Armory) after earning a Grammy nomination for their recording of Mass, which the New York Times praised as “one of the best events of the year.” Commissioned for the 1971 opening of the Kennedy Center, Bernstein’s theater piece Mass is one of the most opulent works of his career, uniting hundreds of artists on stage, including a variety of singers and dancers, in both its Ravinia and CSO premieres. The cast will be led by Tony winner Paulo Szot (South Pacific) as the Celebrant and feature a Street Chorus comprising Morgan James (Motown, The Addams Family), Mykal Kilgore (Jesus Christ Superstar Live, Motown), Timothy McDevitt (Me and My Girl, Brigadoon), Sumayya Ali (Natasha, Pierre and the Great Comet), Kaitlin Mesh (West Side Story, Nice Work If You Can Get It), John Clay III (Grand Hotel), Michael Maliakel (Monsoon Wedding), Nicholas Cunningham (Phantom of the Opera, La Cage aux Folles), Aaron Blake (Fellow Travelers, Candide), Isabel Santiago (Giant, First Daughter Suite, In the Heights Tour), Devon Guthrie (Fellow Travelers, Lyric Opera of Chicago), Barrie Lobo McLain (Kanasa City Choir Boy), Matt Boehler (Metropolitan Opera, Prototype Festival), Karim Sulayman (Houston Grand Opera, Boston Lyric Opera, New York City Opera), Meredith Lustig (Streetcar Named Desire), James Onstad (The Industry, Chicago Lyric Opera, BAM), Michael Preacely (Phantom of the Opera, Porgy and Bess), Alexander Elliot (New York City Opera, Dallas Opera, BAM), Nicole Fragala (West Side Story, Spoleto Festival USA), Devin Ilaw (The Kind and I, Les Misérables), Alexa Jarvis (American Opera Projects, Vashon Opera), and Erica Everett (University of Michigan). The production of Mass will have music supervision by Leslie Stifelman, choreography by Melissa Mahon, scenic design by Victoria “Vita” Tzykun, costume design by Paul Carey, lighting design by Al Crawford, video design by Darrel Maloney and programming by Troy Fujimura, and sound design by Nevin Steinberg. It also features the Highland Park High School Marching Band directed by Joshua Chodoroff and the choruses Vocality and Chicago Children’s Choir, both led by Josephine Lee.

The Church of Modern Love in Broadway THE CHURCH OF MODERN LOVE
The Den Theatre
7/17-7/28/2018
Originally founded by Dole Roxy, The Church of Modern Love is comprised of people centered around one simple idea: “You Deserve To Be Loved.”. and they sing and dance in worship via a rock concert and continue to thrive, even after Dole’s death (along with other members) in a fire in 1991. Today, the church is stronger than ever; full of devout members who gather to honor Jenna, their savior. During the final phase of this audience’s “self search,” church members and leaders begin to unravel the world they built for themselves, and wonder why they joined in the first place. The Church of Modern Love offers an immersive experience for the audience: As they enter the theater, they are members of the church.

Promethean Theatre Ensemble
7/21-8/25/2018
It's 1960 in North Orange, NJ. Clementine (Clytemnestra) and Maddie (Medea) are now housewives with a pill addiction, and Antonia (Antigone) is the teenage girl next door who is in love with a black boy. On the surface, they're seemingly blissful to follow the "rules” of Emily Post, the American author famous for writing on etiquette. But that's just the surface. Then Cassandra, a working girl, moves into their neighborhood and all routines are interrupted. Cassandra is determined to finally break the curse of Apollo, the gorgeous and egotistical god who gave her this “gift” of prophecy but made it so no one would ever believe her. He makes it clear his curse is practically indestructible: yet all she must do is convince someone to believe her. Can Cassandra convince them they now have a choice in this modern era? That they don't have to live a doomed existence? Can all four women escape their ongoing fate?

Officer Marcus Moscowicz is a small town policeman with dreams of making it to detective. One fateful night, shots ring out at the surprise birthday party of Great American Novelist Arthur Whitney and the writer is killed…fatally. With the nearest detective an hour away, Marcus jumps at the chance to prove his sleuthing skills—with the help of his silent partner, Lou. But whodunit? Did Dahlia Whitney, Arthur’s scene-stealing wife, give him a big finish? Is Barrette Lewis, the prima ballerina, the prime suspect? Did Dr. Griff, the overly-friendly psychiatrist, make a frenemy? Everyone is a suspect in Murder for Two, a hilarious musical murder mystery with a twist: One actor investigates the crime. The other plays all of the suspects. And they both play the piano! A zany blend of classic musical comedy and madcap mystery, this fast and funny whodunit is a highly theatrical duet loaded with killer laughs. Runs for 90 minutes with no intermission.
