Bateman & McCarthy's IDENTITY THIEF Poised to Take Weekend Box Office

IDENTITY THIEF, starring modern comedy icons Jason Bateman and Melissa McCarthy, is set to take the weekend box office - despite the impending weather on the east coast.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the film is eyeing a $30 million weekend total. As of Friday alone, it has the potential to bring in over $10 million, should the blizzard hold off on the ever-important (and profitable) eastern markets.

Universal's latest comedy is dircted by Seth Gordon and stars McCarthy, Bateman, Eric Stonestreet, Amanda Peet, John Cho, Jon Favreau and Genesis Rodriguez.

In the film, unlimited funds have allowed Diana to live it up on the outskirts of Miami, where the queen of retail buys whatever strikes her fancy. There's only one glitch: The ID she's using to finance these sprees reads "Sandy Bigelow Patterson"... and it belongs to an accounts rep who lives halfway across the U.S.<

With only one week to hunt down the con artist before his world implodes, the real Sandy Bigelow Patterson heads south to confront the woman with an all-access pass to his life. And as he attempts to bribe, coax and wrangle her the 2,000 miles to Denver, one easy target will discover just how tough it is to get your name back.

Stephen Soderberg's most recent film, SIDE EFFECTS, starring Rooney Mara and Channing Tatum, also opens this weekend. Execs are shooting for $10-12 million gross come Sunday, based upon today's early numbers.

The psychological thriller features Mara as a troubled young woman who develops a dangerous love triangle between her doctor (Jude Law) and her newly paroled husband (Tatum). Catherine Zeta-Jones also stars.
