2) BWW TV: 'FLIPPIN' With PIPPIN Part One

BroadwayWorld gave the cast of Center Theatre Group and Deaf West Theatre's production of "Pippin" a FLIP video camera and then set them free backstage during rehearsals as they prepared for opening night on January 25th. This production interweaves music, voice, American Sign Language and dance, and combines powerful storytelling techniques from both hearing and deaf cultures. BWW TV is proud to bring you this very special video feature, stay tuned for Part 2 coming soon! "Pippin" opens the Mark Taper Forum's 2009. Both deaf and hearing actors sign and sing the magical musical comedy with book by Roger O. Hirson and music and lyrics by Stephen Schwartz. Directed and choreographed by Jeff Calhoun, "Pippin" continues performances through March 15. "Pippin" is the captivating coming of age story about a young man's search for meaning in his life, as told by a lively band of troubadours in the Roman Empire. The episodic quest of Pippin, the son of the powerful Charlemagne, takes him through battlefields, orgies, revolution, and finally, love and domesticity, as he tries to find a place for his "spirit to run free," for his "corner of the sky." 3) RIALTO CHATTER: Jackman Out, Spacey In For 'STAR IS BORN' Workshop

The New York Post's Michael Riedel has revealed that Hugh Jackman, who was flirting with starring in a stage musical of "A Star Is Born," has passed on being a part of the upcoming production. Kevin Spacey will now play the role of washed-up Hollywood star Norman Maine in a workshop in London next month reports Riedel. If all goes well explains Michael Riedel, look for it to open at the Old Vic, which Spacey heads, in the fall of 2009. (more...)

7) Photo Coverage: BROADWAY KIDS CARE Present the 'Knitting Project'

Broadway Kids Care (BKC), the organization of theater kids for kids (and others) will be donating scarves they've knit for their second annual "Knitting Project", BroadwayWorld checked in with the talented young performers as they showed off their colorful creations! Their creations will be donated to the residents of the Lillian Booth Actors' Home as well as residents of Freedom House NYC, a New York City shelter for disabled women and children who are victims of domestic violence. The project will be ongoing through January 2009. "Nothing is sadder than to see someone cold during this time of year," said Gabby Malek, Chair of the Children's Committee. "Broadway Kids Care wants to share some of the warmth from our hearts, by donating handmade scarves and collecting coats for those in need." Later this winter, the children will also perform a special holiday concert at The Actors' Home, where they will be distributing the scarves. (more...)

Mad Men and SPEED-THE-PLOW star Elizabeth Moss and Saturday Night Live cast member Fred Armisen have recently gotten engaged. Mad Men star Moss accepted Armisen's proposal last week. She told USAWeekend.com this past weekend that, "I don't want to share the details of how it happened, but I will say it was perfect." The two talented stars have been very low key regarding the romance, but Armisen has been seen at 'SPEED' quite frequently and as a matter of fact shared the 'BWW TV' screen with Moss for our 'Night Before Christmas' video! 9) Sienna Miller to Make Broadway Debut in Roundabout's AFTER MISS JULIE in Fall 2009

Roundabout Theatre Company (Todd Haimes, Artistic Director) is pleased to announce the following production as part of their 2009-2010 season, Patrick Marber's After Miss Julie starring Sienna Miller. Directed by Mark Brokaw, After Miss Julie will star Sienna Miller in the fall of 2009. Roundabout in association with Sonia Friedman Productions and Ostar Productions present the American premiere of playwright Patrick Marber's drama After Miss Julie. The play transposes August Strindberg's 1888 play about sex and class to an English country house on the eve of Labour's historic landslide in 1945. A performance of Celebrity Autobiography was part of the SF Sketchfest at Cobb's Comedy Club on Monday, January 19, with a cast that included Rachel Dratch, Will Forte, Michael McKean, Laraine Newman, Annette O'Toole, Eugene Pack, Dayle Reyfel, Jason Sudeikis, and Scott Thompson. SF Sketchfest is a national comedy festival in San Francisco that mixes national headliners, local favorites, and the best up-and-coming groups from throughout North America for a month of sketch, improv, stand-up, and alternative comedy. 12) Rick Elice's PETER AND THE STARCATCHERS Opens At La Jolla

La Jolla Playhouse welcomes back Rick Elice, co-writer of the Tony Award-winning Jersey Boys, as the playwright of Peter and the Starcatchers. Alex Timbers and Roger Rees are set to direct with choreography by Kelly Devine and music by Wayne Barker. Peter and the Starcatchers will be playing at the Sheila and Hughes Potiker Theatre at La Jolla Playhouse February 13 -March 8, 2009. Based on the best-selling novel by Dave Barry and Ridley Pearson, Peter and the Starcatchers dares to tell the real story of precisely how a desperate orphan in Victorian England became The Boy Who Would Not Grow Up. It's a tale that travels halfway round the world and straight up to the stars. It's a comedy that takes aim at social injustice. It's a romance of young heroes who risk everything for the sake of doing right. It's an expos? of extravagant villains possessed of a single-minded ferocity from which no good shall ever spring. In short, it's an awfully big adventure. La Jolla Playhouse will present Peter and the Starcatchers, a new play, as a part of its Page To Stage program, by special arrangement with Disney Theatrical Productions. Adam Green has been cast in the role of Peter. He has appeared in Off-Broadway productions such as Election Day, All This Intimacy and None of the Above. Molly will be played by Celia Keenan-Bolger who most recently appeared on Broadway in The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, for which she earned a Tony Award nomination. She also appeared in Saved. Lost boy Prentiss will be played by Carson Elrod, who appeared in the La Jolla Playhouse production of Our Town. Elrod has also appeared on Broadway in Reckless and Noises Off. David Rossmer is cast as the ever - peckish lost boy Teddy. His Broadway credits include Fiddler on the Roof and Titanic. Christian Borle, who will be playing the ravenous Black Stache, received acclaim for his roles in Spamalot. He also received a 2007 Tony Award nomination for his role in the Broadway production of Legally Blonde. Andrew McGinn is set to play Slank. His New York credits include Coast of Utopia and The Invention of Love. Playing Lord Aster is John G. Preston, who recently appeared as Cameron Parker in the Off-Broadway production of Taboos. Greg Hildreth, playing the good hearted Alf, recently appeared in Dance Dance Revolution and Gentlemen of Verona. Teddy Bergman will be playing Fighting Prawn. Tickets go on sale this Sunday, January 25 for the upcoming Broadway production of Eugene Ionesco's classic comedy EXIT THE KING starring Academy Award-winners Geoffrey Rush (Shine) and Susan Sarandon (Dead Men Walking), and Screen Actors Guild Award-winner Lauren Ambrose (Awake and Sing!, "Six Feet Under") and Tony? Award- winner Andrea Martin (My Favorite Year, Young Frankenstein). With a new translation by Neil Armfield and Geoffrey Rush and directed by Neil Armfield, EXIT THE KING will begin performances Saturday, March 7, 2009 at the Barrymore Theatre (243 West 47th Street) and open on Thursday, March 26, 2009. 14) Groff And More To Perform At Fulton Opera Benefit Concert

There will be a benefit concert at the Laurie Beechman Theater At West Bank Cafe to honor Fulton Opera House's late artistic director, Michael Mitchell. Mitchell passed away in September of 2008. The event will be held on January 25 at 7pm. Tony nominee Jonathan Groff will be among the performers, the cast will also include Rachel Coloff, Jenna Coker-Jones, Christopher Kale Jones, Lyndy Franklin, Gregg Goodbrod, Matt Gibson, Michael McGuirk, Matt Simpkins, Tara Bruno, Jessica Kademenos, Mark Fisher, Steph Wilberding, Julia Osborne, Chris York, Harold Barnard, Nathaniel Shaw, Chris Crowthers, Eric Neher, Eric Ulloa, Michael Strassheim, Nicky Venditti, Gavin Waters, Scott Sussman, Stephanie Lynne-Mason, and Danny Gardner. Several alumni from productions that Mitchell directed for the Fulton will perform. Proceeds benefit the Michael Mitchell Endowment, supporting his legacy of theater produced at the Fulton. 16) Jessica-Snow Wilson Joins GLIMPSES OF THE MOON at the Algonquin

SHARON CARR ASSOCIATES, LTD announced today the addition of Jessica-Snow Wilson to the cast of GLIMPSES OF THE MOON. Wilson will be replacing Autumn Hurlbert in the leading role of Susy. GLIMPSES OF THE MOON premiered exactly one year ago at the Oak Room of the Algonquin Hotel to rave reviews and quickly sold out its limited run. 17) FIDDLER ON THE ROOF Opens National Tour In Providence 2/10

FIDDLER ON THE ROOF, heralded as one of the great masterpieces in American Musical Theatre, is embarking on its National Tour, which will officially open in Providence. This landmark production, featuring the star of the original motion picture, Chaim Topol, in his farewell performances, will have two preview performances at the Dupont Theatre in Wilmington, Delaware before it begins a multi-city tour that kicks off officially on February 10 at the Providence Performing Arts Center. Based on the stories of Sholom Aleichem, FIDDLER ON THE ROOF is a family musical about the bonds that hold husbands and wives and parents and children together in times of hardship and times of joy. In what is a huge theatrical feat, PPAC audiences will have the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to see Chaim Topol play Tevye for the last time in his farewell performances of the award-winning role that made him legendary in FIDDLER ON THE ROOF. Topol joins this tour on the heels of a successful, short tour in the South Pacific. After first playing the role of Tevye onstage in 1967, Topol starred in the film version, garnering a Golden Globe Award and an Oscar nomination in the Best Actor category. In 1983, he reprised the role of Tevye in a London revival and in 1990 he again played the part in a Broadway revival, for which he received a Tony Award nomination for Best Leading Actor in a Musical. 18) CHITTY CHITTY BANG BANG Holds Childrens Auditions On 2/1

CHITTY CHITTY BANG BANG, the most fantasmagorical Broadway musical in the history of everything, is searching for six children in the Houston area to make their stage debut with CHITTY at the Hobby Center for the Performing Arts when she arrives on February 24th for a 15-performance engagement through March 7th! Based on the timeless novel by famed James Bond author and creator, Ian Fleming, the production features the music and lyrics by the legendary Sherman brothers, composers of Mary Poppins. The national tour also features an original script and fresh adaptation directed by Ray Roderick. CHITTY CHITTY BANG BANG boasts a beloved score, including memorable classics such as "Truly Scrumptious," "Toot Sweets," "Hushabye Mountain" and the Oscar?-nominated title song, "Chitty Chitty Bang Bang." Auditions will be held at the Hobby Center (800 Bagby Houston, TX 77002) on February 1st at 10am. Auditioning children are to arrive no later than 9:30am accompanied by a parent or guardian to check in. Auditions will begin promptly at 10am. Each child will be asked to sing a cappella 16 bars from one up-tempo song of choice. Children should be prepared to learn and execute simple choreography as part of the audition process. No decisions will be announced during the auditions. Six children will be selected for the ensemble, and they will appear as orphans in Act 2 of every performance. Two alternates will also be chosen. Approximate ages should be between 8 and 12 years old - and have the appearance of children, NOT young adults. Some rehearsals will be required, and information on scheduling for rehearsals and performances will be given out once the six children have been chosen. IN THE HEIGHTS star and Tony Award winner Priscilla Lopez and Academy Award winner Olympia Dukakis hosted AN INTIMATE THEATER EVENING, the 14th annual benefit for the A-T Children's Project at The Clark Studio Theatre at Lincoln Center on Monday, January 19th, 2009. The event raised money for the A-T Children's Project, a non-profit organization formed to raise funds through events and contributions from corporations, foundations and friends. Brad and Vicki Margus founded the A-T Children's Project after two of their sons were diagnosed with ataxia-telangiectasia in 1993. Ataxia-telangiectasia, or "A-T," is a progressive, degenerative disease that affects a startling variety of body systems. Children with A-T appear normal at birth, and the first signs of the disease usually appear during the second year of life. Children who are lucky enough to not develop cancer are typically dependent on wheelchairs by the age of ten due to lack of muscle control in the body. There is no cure for A-T and no way to slow the progression of the disease. A-T Children's Project's goal is to find a cure for the disease. (more...)

Celebrity Autobiography: In Their Own Words continues its sit-down, open-ended run at the Triad Theater, 158 West 72 Street, Monday, January 26, at 7:30pm, with a cast that includes Matthew Broderick, Jackie Hoffman, Eugene Pack, Dayle Reyfel, Sherri Shepherd, Michael Urie, and Alan Zweibel. The comedy sensation Celebrity Autobiography: In Their Own Words features a line-up of rotating performers who interpret the actual words and stories written by the famous and the infamous, in both solo and ensemble "chamber" pieces. Some of the "authors" that are featured include Ivana Trump, Vanna White, Mr. T, Star Jones, Kenny Loggins, Tommy Lee, Sylvester Stallone, 'N Sync, Zsa Zsa Gabor, David Cassidy, Neil Sedaka, Britney Spears, Madonna, Burt Reynolds and Loni Anderson, as well as the infamous memoirs of Elizabeth Taylor, Eddie Fisher, and Debbie Reynolds, which are edited together to create a Rashomon-esque playlet in the participants' own words.
