TAMAR OF THE RIVER to Launch Prospect's 2013-14 Season - 9/21/2013

Prospect Theater Company will present the world premiere production of TAMAR OF THE RIVER, a new music theater work with music and book by Marisa Michelson and book and lyrics by Joshua H. Cohen. LA Opera's CARMEN to be Broadcast Live - 9/21/2013

Eli and Edythe Broad General DirectorPlacido Domingo announced that LA Opera's season-opening production ofCarmen on September 21, 2013, will be broadcast live on a special presentation of 'LA Opera on Air' on Classical KUSC 91.5fm. The performance, which Mr. Domingo will conduct, will feature Irish mezzo-soprano Patricia Bardon as Carmen, tenor Brandon Jovanovich as Don Jose, Italian bass-baritone Ildebrando D'Arcangelo as Escamillo and South African soprano Pretty Yende in her Company debut as Micaela. The production, originally created by Spanish director Emilio Sagi and previously seen in Los Angeles in 2004 and 2008, will be directed by Trevore Ross.


Minnesota Opera Presents Premiere ofManon Lescaut - 9/21/2013

Minnesota Opera is pleased to announce its season opening, in which the irresistible lure of money seduces the beautiful Manon, triggering her downfall. But true love is her redemption in this soulful opera by the composer of La boheme, Madame Butterfly andTurandot. Manon Lescaut was Puccini's third opera and his first major success. Defending his work against another opera based on the 1731 novel by the Abbe Prevost, Puccini said, "Manon is a heroine I believe in, and therefore she cannot fail to win the hearts of the public. Why shouldn't there be two operas about Manon? A woman like Manon can have more than one lover." He added, "Massenet feels it as a Frenchman, with powder and minuets. I shall feel it as an Italian, with a desperate passion."


Prospect Theater's TAMAR OF THE RIVER Begins Off-Broadway - 9/21/2013

Jeremy Greenbaum (The Fantasticks) and Aaron Komo complete the cast of Prospect Theater Company's upcoming world premiere production of TAMAR OF THE RIVER, a new music theater work with music and book by Marisa Michelson, book and lyrics by Joshua H. Cohen and direction by Daniel Goldstein (Godspell). Previously announced cast members include Margo Seibert (set to make her Broadway debut as 'Adrian' in ROCKY on Broadway in Spring 2014) as Tamar, with Ako (Throne of Blood), Erik Lochtefeld (February House), Mike Longo (Hair) and Vince B. Vincent (Geography of Loss), and Jen Anaya, Adam Bashian, Margot Bassett, Troy Burton, Tamrin Goldberg and Mary Kate Morrissey.

WAITING FOR GODOT in Yiddish Opens Off-Broadway - 9/22/2013

The New Yiddish Rep is staging the first-ever production of Samuel Beckett's "Waiting for Godot" in Yiddish. In an unusual collaboration with the Castillo Theatre, 543 West 42nd Street, where the world premiere runs from Friday September 20 to Sunday October 13, diverse audiences will see this seismic landmark of the modern theatre in an entirely new light. Directed by Moshe Yassur, with an authorized translation by Shane Baker, the production marks the 60th anniversary of "Waiting for Godot's" Paris premiere in January of 1953. This "Waiting for Godot" opens on Sunday September 22 at 2pm.


Andrea Martin Exits PIPPIN to Begin Filming WORKING THE ENGELS Sitcom in Toronto - 9/22/2013

The producers of the Broadway hit PIPPIN are pleased to congratulate two-time Tony Award winner Andrea Martin who will depart the production following the Sunday, September 22nd performance to lead the cast of the new Global TV series 'Working the Engels,' which will film in Toronto. A replacement for the role of 'Berthe' in PIPPIN will be announced soon. The show is currently playing at the Music Box Theatre (239 West 45th Street).

As rumored since she took over briefly while Andrea Martin was on vacation, the producers of the Tony Award winning PIPPIN have just announced that four-time Tony Award nominee Tovah Feldshuh (Irena's Vow, Golda's Balcony) will assume the role of "Berthe" in the production beginning on Tuesday, September 24th. Two-time Tony Award winner Andrea Martin will play her final performance in the role on Sunday, September 22nd. Feldshuh previously played "Berthe" during Martin's vacation. Opening night is scheduled for Monday, October 7th for a limited ten-week run through December 1, 2013.

McClure Joins Bway-Bound HONEYMOON IN VEGAS - 9/26/2013

BroadwayWorld has confirmed that CHAPLIN star Rob McClure will return to Paper Mill Playhouse this Fall in Jason Robert Brown's Honeymoon in Vegas. The new musical will open September 26 and run through October 27, 2013 at the New Jersey theatre. A Paper Mill representative told BroadwayWorld: 'We are thrilled to have Rob McClure back at Paper Mill.
