Kaplan's BULLY to Play Steve & Marie Sgouros Theatre as Part of FringeNYC, 8/10-21 - 8/10/2013

Next month as a part of the New York International Fringe Festival, Lee J. Kaplan will bring his powerful solo show BULLY to NYC at The Steve & Marie Sgouros Theatre(115 MacDougal Street, formerly The Players Theatre Loft) running from August 10 to August 21. Inspired by entries in Lee's sixth-grade journal, in the multi-character play he returns to the scene of the crime for the fight of his life, calling to the ring those who subjected him to unrelenting bullying attacks.


STILL JEWISH AFTER ALL THESE YEARS Set for Stage 72 - 8/10/2013

In 1994, Avi Hoffman's Too Jewish? premiered off-off Broadway at the Houseman Theater. After rave reviews and a six-month sold-out engagement, it transferred off-Broadway and had a successful six-month commercial run at the Westside Theater. In 1998, his Too Jewish, Too! opened to great critical acclaim, after which Mr. Hoffman 'vanished' from the New York theatre scene.

Moving Image Kicks Off FUN CITY: NEW YORK IN THE MOVIES 1967-75 Series - 8/10/2013

Movies filmed in New York City that tapped into the turmoil, chaos, and social and cultural energies of the late 1960s and early 1970s are the subject of the screening series Fun City: New York in the Movies 1967-75, curated by film critic and historian J. Hoberman. The series, which will be accompanied by a new monograph written by Hoberman, includes nineteen films, and will be presented by Museum of the Moving Image from August 10 through September 1. The films include established classics such as Rosemary's Baby, The French Connection, Midnight Cowboy, and Dog Day Afternoon, as well as lesser known films such as The Angel Levine, Bye Bye Braverman, and Cotton Comes to Harlem.


Al Pacino Discusses Wilde's SALOME at Hollywood's Egyptian Theater - 8/10/2013

Sondheim to Be Awarded 54th MacDowell Medal - 8/11/2013

The MacDowell Colony will award composer and lyricist Stephen Sondheim with its 54th Edward MacDowell Medal on Sunday, August 11. The MacDowell Colony, the nation's first artist residency program, has awarded the medal annually since 1960 to an individual artist who has made an outstanding contribution to his or her field. This year marks the first time a luminary has been chosen from the realm of musical theatre and Sondheim's generous offering of his talents to the stage made him a clear choice.

Continuing the story of the first TINY TIMES, the film will focuses on four childhood girlfriends' lives, as they move up the corporate ladder in the high-paced fashion world and dealing with their personal lives and loves. Two additional films are planned. Special screenings of the first TINY TIMES are also being planned in select markets in conjunction with the sequel's showings. TINY TIMES is currently playing in theaters now in Los Angeles, Toronto and Vancouver.

PERFECT LIVES Gets Site-Specific Production in the Catskills - 8/17/2013

On August 17, Mount Tremper Arts will present a daylong, site-specific performance of Robert Ashley's 1983 landmark opera Perfect Lives. Adapted by composer-performer collective Varispeed, the performance consists of seven half-hour episodes staged throughout the Catskills. Performances are free and begin at 11am at Woodstock Village Green, a local park in Woodstock, NY. The final episode will take place at Sportsman's Alamo Cantina, a bar on Main Street in Phoenicia, NY.

Opera at Home will present Maria de Buenos Aires written by master of tango, Astor Piazzolla and poet Horacio Ferrer, at the Tete a Tete Opera Festival at Riverside Studios later this month. Maria de Buenos Aires is the only tango opera in the world. This masterpiece follows the journey of Maria as she wanders into the underworld of Buenos Aires.
