MR. BURNS, A POST-ELECTRIC PLAY
Mad Horse Theatre
5/4-5/21/2017
Anne Washburn’s award-winning, imaginative dark comedy propels us forward nearly a century, following a new civilization stumbling into its future. Post-apocalypse, a group of survivors cling to normalcy by trying to piece together the plot of an iconic The Simpsons episode entirely from memory. Fast forward to 7 years later, and the episode and other snippets of pop culture have become live entertainment for a nostalgic populace. Jump to 75 years later, and all have been elevated to the myth and legend of a new society. Mr. Burns is a fascinating exploration of the intersection of pop culture and high art, and a dynamic paean to live theater itself.

Rock of Ages in Broadway ROCK OF AGES
The Portland Players
5/19-6/4/2017
The Portland Players presents the wild 1980's rock jukebox musical! May 19 - June 4, 2017 Fridays & Saturdays at 7:30pm Sundays at 2:30pm ? Book by Chris D’Arienzo Arrangements and Orchestrations by Ethan Popp ? Directed by Michael Donovan Music Direction by Denise Calkins Choreography by Victoria Perreault ? It’s the tail end of the big, bad 1980's in Hollywood, and the party has been raging hard. Aqua Net, Lycra, lace and liquor flow freely at one of the Sunset Strips last legendary venues, a place where sex machine Stacee Jaxx takes the stage and scantily clad groupies line up to turn their fantasies into reality. Amidst the madness, aspiring rock star (and resident toilet cleaner) Drew longs to take the stage as the next big thing (and longs for small-town girl Sherri, fresh off the bus from Kansas with stars in her eyes.) But the rock and roll fairy-tale is about to end when German developers sweep into town with plans to turn the fabled Strip into just another capitalist strip mall. Can Drew, Sherri and the gang save the strip–and themselves–before it's too late? Only the music of hit bands Styx, Journey, Bon Jovi, Whitesnake and more hold the answer. ***Contains mature content and situations. Parental discretion strongly advised.*** ?
