The Laguna Playhouse will welcome local author Robert Hilburn, author of Johnny Cash: The Life, on Saturday, January 18, at 1 PM and 6:30 PM. Hilburn is appearing in conjunction with The Laguna Playhouse production of the musical RING OF FIRE, which features close to 30 of Cash's most well-loved songs. Hilburn will speak about his book, answer questions, and sign books. There is no charge for this event, which is free with the purchase of a ticket to the 2 PM matinee or 7:30 PM evening performance of RING OF FIRE. This event is co-sponsored by Laguna Beach Books. As music critic for the Los Angeles Times, Hilburn knew Cash well throughout his life. Hilburn was the only music journalist at the legendary Folsom Prison concert in 1968, and he interviewed Cash extensively before Cash's death in 2003.
