BIO
Goldwyn began his screen career in guest-starring television roles in the mid-1980s. In 1990, he had his breakthrough film role as Carl Bruner in Ghost, earning a Saturn Award nomination for Best Supporting Actor. He appeared in Designing Women and portrayed Neil Armstrong in the HBO miniseries From the Earth to the Moon (1998). In 1999, he voiced the title role in Disney’s animated feature Tarzan, reprising the character in the video games Tarzan: Untamed and Kingdom Hearts. He later had a recurring role as Frank Goren on Law & Order: Criminal Intent and performed acting and directing duties during the first season of Dexter (2006).
On stage, Goldwyn appeared in Theresa Rebeck’s Spike Heels (1992) at Second Stage Theatre and returned there in 2006 for The Water’s Edge. He performed in the Broadway musical Promises, Promises in 2010 and appeared on the cast recording released June 23, 2010. In 2012, he played Captain von Trapp in a concert performance of The Sound of Music at Carnegie Hall.
As a director, Goldwyn helmed the feature films A Walk on the Moon (1999), Someone Like You (2001), The Last Kiss (2006), and Conviction (2010). He directed episodes of series including Without a Trace, The L Word, Dexter, Law & Order: Criminal Intent, Grey’s Anatomy, and Scandal, and directed the 2014 pilot of The Divide, on which he also served as executive producer.
From 2012 to 2018, Goldwyn starred as President Fitzgerald Grant III on the ABC drama Scandal. His later film and television work includes Outlaw Prophet (2013), Divergent (2014), The Belko Experiment (2016), Chambers (2019), King Richard (2021), and Oppenheimer (2023). In 2023, he portrayed Theodore Roosevelt in an Audible audiobook of Alice Roosevelt Longworth’s autobiography. In 2024, he joined the cast of Law & Order as Manhattan District Attorney Nicholas Baxter.
