Kathy Evans, Founding Executive Director of Rhinebeck Writers Retreat, announced the 17 writers and 8 new musicals selected for the fifth summer of weeklong retreats. For eight consecutive weeks beginning July 5th, each writing team will have a residency in Rhinebeck, New York. Writers are provided a private home, transportation, food, and a $400 stipend. This year's writers include Obie winner Kirsten Childs, Tony nominee Elizabeth Davis, and 2015 Jonathan Larson award-winners Charlie Sohne, Tim Rosser, and Sam Willmott, who also just won the Kleban Prize.  (more...)

Two years ago, as writer/actors Jim Blanchette and Jacob Smith were waiting for a quick load in for their Hollywood Fringe festival show, evading incontinent birds in an alley and talking about what Fringe artists go through, they started forming ideas for the "fringiest" of Fringe shows. At the same time, their colleague Corey Lynn Howe and her company Village Idiom Productions presented an acclaimed version of the hit musical [title of show] and experienced both successes and challenges all their own. As they talked over drinks at Fringe Central, what the three quickly realized is that Fringe is about a lot more than the artists and their shows, it's also about hard work, camaraderie, ambition, drinking, frustration, varying levels of talent, lunacy and, at many times, absolute absurdity. The complete cast and creative team have been announced for The Old Globe production of William Shakespeare's delightful and romantic Twelfth Night. Rebecca Taichman, whose production of the time-traveling Time and the Conways fascinated audiences last April, is back to direct the first show of the 2015 Summer Shakespeare Festival.  After a triumphant first season in its namesake city, Atlantic City Ballet is pleased to announce the lineup for its 33rd season. The season will begin July 25th with a family friendly production of Midsummer Night's Dream. Performances will be at earlier times making it easier for families with children to attend. There will also be An Enchanted Forest Party to kick off the opening of the season. In August the company will premier 3 new works as part of their New Works Series. The Fall/Winter will bring back audience favorites with Dracula, It's A Shore Holiday and Nutcracker. After a short break the company will return with a new program entitled American Songbook and they will end their season with a time honored classic, Swan Lake. As always the Atlantic City Ballet is committed to bringing the art of ballet to everyone so they will continue Ballet on the Boardwalk with performances every Wednesday on Kennedy Plaza starting July 29th right through Labor Day. These free performances are partly funded by the CRDA and Atlantic City Alliance. The company will also be performing at The Strand Theater in Lakewood, NJ with performances of Ballet Goes Broadway, The Nutcracker with The Garden State Philharmonic and Visions. In celebration of their 33rd season, the ballet is offering a pre season sale. Use code SEASON33 and receive 33% off all single ticket sales. Subscriptions will also be offered. “We're looking forward to offering a wide variety of ballets this coming season.” explained Ms. Papa, Artistic Director. “We toured for so many years, we weren't able to offer our audiences the things we can now, like new ballets, special discounts and subscriptions. Centenary Stage Company continues their tradition of nurturing young artists by offering the TYRO I and II Acting Program this summer June 29 - July 10.  As part of the CSC's mission to introduce and develop arts in education with the community, TYRO I and II is a two - week theatre arts program that meets daily and is designed specifically for young thespians ages 6 - 11 years of age.  Using structured theatre activities which focus on expression, confidence building and fun, young thespians will learn acting games and demonstrate improvisations inspired by popular fairy and folk tales.  TYRO I is specifically designed for students 6 - 8 years of age and meets daily from 9:30am to 12:00pm through the two week session.  TYRO II developed to engage students 9 - 11 years of age meets daily from 1:00pm to 3:30pm during the two week session.  Tuition for the two week program is $200.00 per student and the deadline for registration is June 15, 2015. Directed by Kamilah Forbes, this Limited Off-Broadway run is the actress-writer-comedian's funny take on growing up Black & Jewish as the daughter of one of the world's most beloved & iconic funny men, comic genius Richard Pryor.
