George Clooney made his Broadway debut in 2025 in Good Night, and Good Luck, which was then filmed and aired on CNN later that year, before hitting Prime Video in October, and Netflix in 2026.
Clooney’s first screen appearance was as an extra in the television miniseries Centennial (1978). His first major role was in the sitcom E/R (1984). He also appeared on The Facts of Life, The Golden Girls, Roseanne, Baby Talk, Bodies of Evidence, and Sisters. He made his theatre debut in Vicious (1986). His early film work included Return of the Killer Tomatoes (1988) and the ABC drama Sunset Beat (1990).
He rose to prominence as Dr. Doug Ross on ER (1994–1999), earning two Primetime Emmy nominations and three Golden Globe nominations.
While on ER, he began a film career with From Dusk till Dawn (1996), One Fine Day (1996), The Peacemaker (1997), Batman & Robin (1997), Out of Sight (1998), and Three Kings (1999).
After leaving ER, he starred in The Perfect Storm (2000) and O Brother, Where Art Thou? (2000), followed by Ocean’s Eleven (2001), Solaris (2002), and Intolerable Cruelty (2003). He made his directorial debut with Confessions of a Dangerous Mind (2002). He reprised his role in Ocean’s Twelve (2004) and Ocean’s Thirteen (2007).
In 2005, he starred in Syriana and directed, produced, and starred in Good Night, and Good Luck, receiving Academy Award nominations for directing and writing, and winning the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor for Syriana. He appeared in The Good German (2006), Michael Clayton (2007, Oscar nomination), and directed and starred in Leatherheads (2008).
Later roles included The Men Who Stare at Goats (2009), voicing Fantastic Mr. Fox (2009), Up in the Air (2009), and The American (2010). He starred in The Descendants (2011), winning a Golden Globe, and directed and starred in The Ides of March (2011, Oscar nomination for Adapted Screenplay).
He produced Argo (2012), which won the Academy Award for Best Picture. He co-starred in Gravity (2013) and wrote, directed, and starred in The Monuments Men (2014). Subsequent acting roles included Tomorrowland (2015), Hail, Caesar! (2016), and Money Monster (2016). He directed Suburbicon (2017).
Clooney starred, directed, and produced the miniseries Catch-22 (2019). He directed, produced, and starred in The Midnight Sky (2020) and directed The Tender Bar (2021–2022). He reunited with Julia Roberts in Ticket to Paradise (2022) and made a cameo in The Flash (2023). He directed The Boys in the Boat (2023) and co-starred with Brad Pitt in Wolfs (2024).
He produced the documentary Surviving Ohio State (2025). He is set to star in Jay Kelly for Netflix.
