BIO
Danya Taymor grew up in Palo Alto, California, and attended Palo Alto High School before graduating from Duke University. She began directing professionally with productions including I Hate F*CKing Mexicans (2012), Wrench (2012), and My Daughter Keeps Our Hammer (2014) at Off-Broadway venues including the Flea Theatre and The Tank. In 2015, she made her Broadway debut as assistant director of Thérèse Raquin at Studio 54 and also directed Wyoming Off-Broadway.
Her Off-Broadway directing credits include In Quietness (2016), The Place We Built (2016), The Sensuality Party (2016), Asking for Trouble (2016), Queens (2018), "Daddy" (2019), Heroes of the Fourth Turning (2019), Evanston Salt Costs Climbing (2022), Jonah (2024), and Trophy Boys (2025). She also directed regional productions including Pass Over at Steppenwolf Theatre (2017), Familiar (2018), Graveyard Shift at Goodman Theatre (2020), and The Outsiders at La Jolla Playhouse (2023).
Taymor directed the Broadway production of Pass Over in 2021 at the August Wilson Theatre. She later directed The Outsiders on Broadway in 2024 at the Bernard B. Jacobs Theatre, winning the 2024 Tony Award for Best Direction of a Musical. Additional directing credits include Endgame at Dublin’s Gate Theatre (2022), "Daddy" A Melodrama at London’s Almeida Theatre (2022), John Proctor is the Villain on Broadway in 2025, and the West End production of John Proctor is the Villain in 2026 at the Royal Court Theatre. She also directed the 2026 U.S. national tour of The Outsiders.
In January 2026, Taymor was announced as the director of the upcoming film adaptation of John Proctor is the Villain. She is married to actor Gabriel Ebert.
