Producers Broadway Across America (John Gore, Thomas B. McGrath, Beth Williams), Barbara Whitman, Latitude Link, Dede Harris, Sharon Karmazin, and Howard and Janet Kagan have just announced that the La Jolla Playhouse production of the new American musical HANDS ON A HARDBODY will open Thursday, March 21, 2013 at Broadway's Brooks Atkinson Theatre (256 West 47th Street), following a preview period that begins Saturday, February 23, 2013. Following a nationwide search, producers of the musical have announced that Johnny Rabe will don Ralphie's trademark spectacles for the holiday engagement at the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre. Now according to the New York Times, the United States attorney's office is investigating whether the investor ever existed in the first place. Sprecher told NYT: "I never made up or fabricated any investor, and I never made up Paul Abrams." He also revealed that a new production of Rebecca is in the works that he 'hoped to mount soon, on Broadway or elsewhere.' (more...)

The producers of A Christmas Story, The Musical will present the November 5 –December 30 Broadway engagement at the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre. Following a nationwide search, Johnny Rabe will don Ralphie's trademark spectacles. John Bolton (Spamalot, Contact, Titanic, "Boardwalk Empire," "Gossip Girl') will reprise his acclaimed performance as The Old Man from the 2011 National Tour. Joining Bolton will be Tony Award nominee Erin Dilly (Nice Work if You Can Get It, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang) as Mother, Zac Ballard (Oliver! at Irish Repertory Theatre) as little brother Randy, Caroline O'Connor (Chicago, Moulin Rouge) as school teacher Miss Shields, and Eddie Korbich (The Little Mermaid, The Drowsy Chaperone, Wicked) as Santa Claus. Hi friends! What an amazing last 6 months I have had. In March I finished out the first national tour of "MARY POPPINS" in Mexico City playing for almost 5,000 people a night. Touring was such an unforgettable experience and I feel lucky to have been a part of such an amazing group of people. I landed back in NYC after being away for almost 6 years, and much to my surprise I booked my first Broadway show my second week back. What a welcome back to NYC gift that was! On April 3rd I made my Broadway debut in the hit show "Rock of Ages", and since then the fun has not stopped. (more...)

Today in 2003, Little Shop of Horrors opened at the Virginia THeatre (now the August Wilson Theatre), where it ran for 372 performances. Little Shop of Horrors is a comedy horror rock musical, by composer Alan Menken and writer Howard Ashman, about a hapless florist shop worker who raises a plant that feeds on human blood and flesh. The musical is based on the low-budget 1960 black comedy film The Little Shop of Horrors, directed by Roger Corman. The music, composed by Menken in the style of early 1960s rock and roll, doo-wop and early Motown, includes several well-known tunes, including the title song, "Skid Row (Downtown)", "Somewhere That's Green", and "Suddenly, Seymour". Tony nominee Raul Esparza will play the recurring role of "DA Rafael Barba" on Law & Order: SVU beginning on Wednesday, October 10. The episode, titled "Twenty-Five Acts," centers on the author of a best-selling erotic novel (Anna Chlumsky) who accuses a high-profile talk show host (Roger Bart) of rape. The SVU detectives face an uphill battle when they find that her account of the rape is exactly like the chapters in her book, and along with the DA's office (Esparza), they struggle to keep the case from turning into a media circus.
