Positive Motion Announces 2010-2011 Concert Series

Ruslan Biryukov, Producer of Positive Motions Concert Series announced today the slate for the Second Annual Season for Positive Motions Concert Series and the Glendale Philharmonic Orchestra, led by Mikael Avetisyan, Artistic Director and Principal Conductor. 2010 - 2011 Season Media Sponsors include: Armenian Media Network, including Horizon Armenian Television and Asbarez Newspaper, and Panorama Media Group.

Biryukov said: "Our second annual season will consist of six concerts, including three concerts featuring the Glendale Philharmonic Orchestra and two chamber concerts featuring members of the Glendale Philharmonic Orchestra, which will be performed in the acoustically perfect and intimate First Baptist Church of Glendale. In addition, another special event, the screening of a Silent Movie, will be shown at the equally historic Alex Theatre in Glendale, featuring members of the Glendale Philharmonic Orchestra accompanying the film."

Performance dates for Positive Motions Concert Series 2010 - 2011 will include:
- Sunday, November 7, 2010 at 5:00 p.m.: Season Opening Concert with the Glendale Philharmonic Orchestra performing under the baton of Maestro Mikael Avetisyan at First Baptist Church of Glendale.

- Saturday, January 8, 2011 at 7:00 p.m.: Holiday Concert with Glendale Philharmonic Orchestra performing under the baton of Maestro
Mikael Avetisyan at First Baptist Church of Glendale.

- Thursday, February 10, 2011 at 7:00 p.m.: "A Night At The Movies" featuring members of the Glendale Philharmonic Orchestra led by Positive Motions Concert Series Artistic Advisor Maksim Velichkin at the Alex Theatre in Glendale. A Silent Film, soon to be announced, will be screened, which will be preceded by a Pre-Screening Talk at 6:00 p.m. prepared by and in collaboration with members of the Glendale Historical Society.

- Saturday, March 5, 2011 at 7:00 p.m.: Chamber Concert - "Three Graces: Beauty, Charm and Joy - A Tribute To Los Angeles Women Composers" featuring Glendale Philharmonic Orchestra Concertmistress, Limor Toren-Immerman and members of the Glendale Philharmonic Orchestra with Special Guests at the First Baptists Church of Glendale.

- Sunday, May 22, 2011 at 5:00 p.m.: Chamber Concert - "Ruslan Biryukov and Friends" featuring Glendale Philharmonic Orchestra Founder, Ruslan Biryukov and members of the Glendale Philharmonic Orchestra at First Baptist Church of Glendale.

- Sunday, June 4, 2011 at 5:00 p.m.: Season Finale Concert with the Glendale Philharmonic Orchestra performing under the baton of Maestro Mikael Avetisyan at First Baptist Church of Glendale.

Tickets for the November 7, 2010, January 8, 2011 and June 4, 2011 Glendale Philharmonic Orchestra concerts are $15, $20, $25, $50 (VIP Seating) and $100 (Conductor's Circle VIP Seating which includes a Private Dinner hosted by Ruslan Biryukov and Mikael Avetisyan). Positive Motions Concert Series' 2010 - 2011 Second Annual Season will kick off on Sunday, November 7, 2010 at 5:00 p.m. with the Glendale Philharmonic Orchestra performing at First Baptist Church of Glendale; 209 North Louise Street (at Wilson Avenue); Glendale, CA 91206 under the baton of Maestro Mikael Avetisyan. Repertoire will include: Georges Bizet's-Rodion Shchedrin's "Carmen Suite" for String Orchestra and Percussion; The Los Angeles Premiere of "Armenian Folk Tunes" arranged by Ruben Altunian for Duduk and Orchestra featuring soloist Ruben Harutyunian; "Cello Concerto" by Johann Christian Bach featuring soloist Ruslan Biryukov and "Sonata For String Orchestra, #2" by Gioacchino Rossini. The concert will also feature a Guest Appearance by the Glendale Youth Orchestra, now celebrating it's 22nd Season, under the baton of Brad Keimach. The Glendale Youth Orchestra will perform a surprise piece! The Glendale Philharmonic Orchestra's first CD of their Inaugural Concert, presented in January 2010, will also be available for purchase at this concert.

The second concert of the season will be presented on Saturday, January 8, 2011 at 7:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Glendale with a Holiday Concert featuring the Glendale Philharmonic Orchestra under the baton of Maestro Mikael Avetisyan, with Special Guest Comedian, Emo Philips. Repertoire will include "The Seasons, Op. 37" by Peter Ilych Tchaikovsky and "Peter and the Wolf" by Sergei Prokofiev, narrated by Emo Philips.

On Thursday, February 10, 2011 at 7:00 p.m., members of Glendale Philharmonic Orchestra, led by Positive Motions Concert Series Artistic Advisor, Maksim Velichkin, will accompany a Silent Movie in an evening entitled, "A Night At The Movies," to be presented at the Alex Theatre; 216 North Brand Boulevard; Glendale, CA 91203. The movie to be screened will be announced at a later date. The movie screening will be preceded by a Pre-Screening Talk at 6:00 p.m. prepared by and in collaboration with members of the Glendale Historical Society.

A chamber concert entitled, "Three Graces: Beauty, Charm and Joy - A Tribute To Los Angeles Women Composers," will be presented at the First Baptist Church of Glendale on Saturday, March 5, 2011 at 7:00 p.m. The concert will feature Glendale Philharmonic Orchestra Concertmistress, Limor Toren-Immerman with members of the Glendale Philharmonic Orchestra and Special Guests, including: Ruslan Biryukov, Cello; Paul Hochhalter, Cello; Scott Hosfield, Viola; Anna Kostyuchek, Violin; Maria Newman, Violin; Laura Pierson, Viola and Dmitry Rachmanov, Piano. Repertoire will include: The World Premiere of "String Quartet #1" by Sharon Farber; "String Quartet #2" by Maria Newman; "Romanza" by Carol Worthey; "Stile Untico" by Deon Nielson Price and "Musescapes" by Adrienne Albert.

On Sunday, May 22, 2011 at 5:00 p.m. a chamber concert entitled, "Ruslan Biryukov And Friends," will be presented at First Baptist Church of Glendale. The concert will feature Glendale Philharmonic Orchestra Founder, Ruslan Biryukov along with members of the orchestra, including the debuts of the Los Angeles Cello Quartet and the Glendale Philharmonic String Quartet. Performers will include: Shushan Akopyan, 1st Violin; LaVette Allen, Viola; Ruslan Biryukov, Cello; Hope Easton, Cello; Edgar Sandoval, 2nd Violin; Garik Terzian, Cello and Maksim Velichkin, Cello. Repertoire will include: The World Premiere of "Passages" in three movements written by composer Adrienne Albert including Movement I: "Friends," Movement II: "Elegy," and Movement III: "Heaven and Earth;" The World Premiere of "Sonata for Two Cellos" written by composer Nicholas Gianopolous for cellists Ruslan Biryukov and Maksim Velichkin, and works written by student composers from Los Angeles City College's Music Department, including: "The Picture of DorIan Grey" by Manuel Whitman; "Waiting" by Dena K. Gorilik; "Reflection of a Lost Plain" by Luis Escareno; and "Irritation" by Kenji Oh.

The Glendale Philharmonic Orchestra, under the baton of Maestro Mikael Avetisyan, and Positive Motions Concert Series, will close its Second Annual Season on Sunday, June 4, 2011 at 5:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Glendale featuring soloists Ruslan Biryukov, Cello and the debut of the Glendale Philharmonic Choir. Repertoire will include: "Ancient Air and Dances, Suite No. 3" by Antonio Respighi; "Concerto For Electric Cello, Choir and Orchestra" by Maksim Velichkin with cello soloist Ruslan Biryukov; and "Chamber Symphony" by Dmitry Shostakovich.

The Glendale Philharmonic Orchestra is a non-profit 501 (c) 3 organization whose mission is to present professional quality orchestral and chamber music concerts. The orchestra is led by Artistic Director and Principal Conductor, Mikael Avetisyan. The orchestra was founded in January 2010 by noted cellist Ruslan Biryukov, who also serves as Artistic Director and Producer of Positive Motions Concert Series, which presents the orchestra.
