John Kander has received several prestigious awards throughout his career. He won the Distinguished Achievement in Musical Theatre from the Drama League Awards and The American Express Tribute from the Helen Hayes Awards. His musical Chicago earned the Outstanding Musical Production award from the Olivier Awards. He received the Best Musical award from the New York Drama Critics Circle Awards for Kiss of the Spider Woman, for which he also won the Tony Award for Best Original Score (Music and/or Lyrics) Written for the Theatre. Additionally, Kander won the Tony Award for Best Original Score for Woman of the Year. His musical Cabaret received the Best Musical award from the New York Drama Critics Circle Awards, along with a Tony Award for Best Original Score.
