by Mickle Maher directed by Erica Weiss What happens when the tiny inhabitants of a secluded island seek to join the developed world and form a basketball team? When one of their players, a down-at-heel American journeyman named Michael Jordan (not the Michael Jordan), won't shoot or pass the ball, he ensures a losing season for his vertically-challenged team. Playing out entirely in the Q and A format of post-game conferences, Michael Jordan in Lilliput combines the fantastical with the mundane and the expansive with the irrelevant. The Silver Whistle: Spring Youth Circus in Broadway THE SILVER WHISTLE: SPRING YOUTH CIRCUS
The Actors Gymnasium
5/13-5/21/2017
Meet Prudence. She’s a bit like Cinderella, but without the shoes, fairy godmother, or curfew. Instead, Prudence has only a taste for adventure and the silver whistle left to her by her mother. On her quest to retrieve a magical mirror, Prudence meets a scheming witch, a one-of-a-kind Wazar, and that Prince everyone keeps talking about… Prudence is a young woman who is underestimated and unappreciated by most everyone around her. When her mother passes away, Prudence is left with an unshakable sense of self, a taste for adventure, and a magical silver whistle that summons bugs, birds and beasts so that she will never be lonely. Meanwhile, the Prince is on the lookout for a bride. A witch sends Prudence to fetch a magical mirror – one that will allow whoever owns it to win the Prince’s heart – and Prudence sets off on a journey with her trusty whistle. On a journey far south to a land where the ground moves when the wind blows, Prudence meets fantastical creatures, a powerful Wazar and the royal Prince! In The Silver Whistle, everyone is searching for something they don’t have – beauty, love, respect, or perhaps just a change from the norm. Running time: 80 minutes without intermission There is no late seating for this show.

THE LIAR
Athenaeum Theatre
4/21-5/27/2017
The Liar tells the story of Dorante, a young man newly arrived in Paris who wastes no time beginning his search for love and adventure, primarily through the spinning of extremely tall tales. As his tangled web of deception gets more and more complex and difficult to maintain, Ives uses Corneille’s text to explore the layers of seeming and identity that we weave around ourselves to get through the day. Promethean’s production will be designed to get the engine of farce at the heart of the play humming along smoothly, with sharp and precise language and sincere but high stakes performances, so that the audience can sit back and revel in the joyful chaos of the play.

NOT ABOUT NIGHTINGALES
Raven Theatre
4/19-6/3/2017
When rules are unjust, we need to break them. This early play by Tennessee Williams is the story, based on real events, of a prison in which inmates fight back against the oppression of a physically abusive and even murderous warden. Written in 1938 and rediscovered in the late 1990's when it was revived in London and on Broadway, Not About Nightingales shows signs of the genius Williams would later prove to be.

Things to Ruin: The Songs of Joe Iconis in Broadway THINGS TO RUIN: THE SONGS OF JOE ICONIS
Refuge Theatre Project at Exit Chicago
5/12-6/18/2017
Described as a “theatrical rock concert,” Things to Ruin has been performed in New York City venues including the Second Stage and Joe’s Pub and features 19 songs by the 35-year-old Iconis, possibly the best and most famous musical theater songwriter you’ve never heard of. The New York Times, in its review of Things to Ruin, described Iconis’s songs like this: “(the music) belongs to the mode of “Rent” and of Duncan Sheik’s more vigorous numbers in “Spring Awakening,” but the tunes are sparer, the beats harder.” Commenting on Iconis’s lyrics, Variety said “Things to Ruin” has Iconis’ lyrical ingenuity to recommend it — like Ben Folds or Joe Jackson, Iconis seems hell-bent on finding all the commonly shared emotional moments that nobody else has yet set to music…. For every song that sounds a little conventional, there are two that sound like a bet Iconis won (“I’ll give you 50 bucks if you can write a good song about your friends going to the bar and not calling you”).”
