2) San Francisco Ethnic Dance Festival to Hold Auditions for the Public, 11/7

San Francisco, CA, September 17, 2015 – Bay Area audiences will have a rare opportunity to experience dance from 40 world dance and music traditions as more than 1200 dancers in more than 100 dance companies audition for a coveted spot in the 2016 San Francisco Ethnic Dance Festival, scheduled for the first three weekends in June 2016, at the historic Palace of Fine Arts Theatre in San Francisco.  The auditions will be held over two weekends— Saturday, November 7, 11 am to 7 pm; Sunday, November 8, Noon to 8 pm; and Saturday and Sunday, November 14 and 15, Noon to 8 pm at the Palace of Fine Arts. Each company will perform for 5–10 minutes and will be adjudicated by a panel of dance experts, along with Festival Artistic Directors Carlos Carvajal and CK Ladzekpo.  (more...)

8) BWW Review: A Captivating Evening with NEW CHAMBER BALLET

On September 11-12, choreographer and company director Miro Magloire kicked off the New Chamber Ballet's 2015-16 season with an intimate gathering at the City Center Studios. Magloire, a native of Munich, Germany, began his career as a composer before moving to New York to pursue dance. His work draws from his background in music and home country to present an evening of lovely and sophisticated choreography that is masterfully accompanied to live music, which is integral to the company's artistic identity.  This engagement marked the first of five two-night seasons in their home base at City Center. 9) Camille A. Brown & Dancers to Tour BLACK GIRL

Camille A. Brown & Dancers, recognized for its introspective approach to cultural themes through visceral movement and socio-political dialogues, announces its 2015-2016 Season tour. Commencing with the world premiere of Bessie and Doris Duke award-winning choreographer Camille A. Brown's BLACK GIRL: Linguistic Play at New York's Joyce Theater, the company will also tour to 10 venues and cities across the nation, including Chicago, Los Angeles, and Miami. Performances will feature original live music by composers Scott Patterson (piano) and Tracy Wormworth (electric bass), and a moderated dialogue with audiences around the cultural and universal themes presented by the Company's repertory. Mark Anthony Neal and dream hampton are among the moderators for the Joyce Theater. The season will also include various residencies, Black Girl Spectrum workshops and panel discussions. (more...)
