BIO
Ryan Rumery is a composer for film, television, and podcasts. He recently won the Tony Award for Best Sound Design of a Play for his work on Stereophonic. Ryan’s music is regularly heard on “This American Life” and in the film Food and Country, premiering at Sundance 2023. He is a 2017 alumnus of the Sundance Institute Music and Sound Design Lab: Documentary, and is also a music producer, music editor, and recording engineer. He plays drums and keyboards.

I had the pleasure of seeing the original Broadway production of Stereophonic that ruled the 2023 awards season becoming most Tony Award-nominated play of all time, winner of five. My thoughts then were brilliant concept excellently executed, and this touring production, making its San Francisco debut duplicates the magic of this intimate look into the recording of a studio album.

Ryan Rumery has won several prestigious awards for his sound design work. He received the Best Sound Design of a Play award from the BroadwayWorld Awards for Stereophonic. He also earned the Outstanding Sound Design of a Play award at the Drama Desk Awards for Stereophonic. Additionally, he was honored with the Outstanding Sound Design (Broadway or Off-Broadway) award from the Outer Critics Circle Awards for Stereophonic. His work on Stereophonic also garnered the Outstanding Sound Design award from The Lortels.
