Aaron Tveit

Aaron Tveit began his professional career in 2003 when he joined the national tour of Rent as Steve and understudied the roles of Roger and Mark. He later left Ithaca College to play Link Larkin in the first national tour of Hairspray, making his Broadway debut in the role in 2006. In 2007, he appeared as Matt in Barrington Stage Company's production of Calvin Berger and as D'Artagnan in a musical adaptation of The Three Musketeers at North Shore Music Theatre. He subsequently returned to Broadway's Hairspray and participated in an early workshop of The Black Suits. Tveit made his film debut in Ghost Town (2008), playing a young anesthesiologist.

In 2007, Tveit originated the role of Gabe in the Off-Broadway production of Next to Normal, which ran at Second Stage Theater from January 16 to March 16, 2008. He reprised the role in the Arena Stage production in 2008, earning the 2009 Helen Hayes Award for Outstanding Supporting Performer in a Non-Resident Production. In June 2008, he played Dean in the musical adaptation of Saved! at Playwrights Horizons and joined the Broadway production of Wicked as Fiyero. He returned to Wicked in January 2009 before leaving in March to join the Broadway production of Next to Normal, which opened on April 15, 2009. His performance as Gabe earned him the Clarence Derwent Award from the Actors' Equity Association. He remained with the production until June 6, 2009, and returned from September 7, 2009, through January 3, 2010.

In 2009, Tveit played Frank Abagnale Jr. in the out-of-town production of Catch Me If You Can at the 5th Avenue Theatre in Seattle, which ran from July 28 to August 16. He also portrayed Roger Davis in the Hollywood Bowl production of Rent, directed by Neil Patrick Harris, in August 2009. That year, he participated in the MCC Theater Miscast Gala, returning for the event in 2010. Tveit subsequently starred as Frank Abagnale Jr. in the Broadway production of Catch Me If You Can, which opened on April 10, 2011, and closed on September 4, 2011. His performance earned nominations for the Outer Critics Circle Award for Outstanding Actor in a Musical, the Drama League Award for Distinguished Performance and the Fred Astaire Award for Best Male Dancer on Broadway.

Tveit's early television credits included a recurring role as Tripp van der Bilt on the CW series Gossip Girl and an appearance as Zachary Boule in the episode "All the World's a Stage" of Ugly Betty. He also portrayed Peter Orlovsky in Rob Epstein's film Howl (2010), opposite James Franco, and guest-starred twice on Law & Order: Special Victims Unit.

In 2012, Tveit played Enjolras in the film adaptation of Les Misérables. He performed with the film's cast at the 85th Academy Awards ceremony on February 24, 2013. In July 2012, he participated in a private reading for a musical adaptation of the animated film Anastasia, reading for the role of Dimitri. In 2013, he began starring as undercover FBI Special Agent Mike Warren in the USA Network series Graceland. The series premiered on June 6, 2013, and ran for three seasons, concluding in October 2015.

Between seasons of Graceland, Tveit made his London stage debut as John Wilkes Booth in the Menier Chocolate Factory production of Stephen Sondheim's Assassins. The production ran from November 21, 2014, to March 7, 2015, although Tveit departed on February 8, 2015, and was replaced by Michael Xavier. In January 2014, he recorded the concept album for An American Victory: A New Musical alongside Ashley Brown, Hugh Panaro, Ruthie Henshall, Alexander Gemignani and other performers. The cast recording was released in April 2016. Tveit also recorded his solo album, The Radio in My Head, and began performing solo concerts. In August 2015, he appeared in the film Big Sky, released on August 14, and performed at the inaugural Elsie Fest in New York in September.

In 2016, Tveit portrayed Danny Zuko in Grease Live, a live television production broadcast by Fox on January 31. He was featured on the production's soundtrack and returned to the MCC Theater Miscast Gala in April. That year, he also appeared in the film Undrafted, released on July 15, and Better Off Single, released in theaters and on demand on October 7. Tveit starred in the CBS series BrainDead, which premiered on June 13, 2016, and was canceled after one season on October 17, 2016. He subsequently reprised his role from The Good Wife in an episode of The Good Fight in 2017.

In 2017, Tveit returned to Barrington Stage Company to play Bobby in the production of Company, which ran from August 10 to September 10. In November 2017, he participated in a developmental lab for the stage adaptation of Moulin Rouge!, playing Christian, the role originated onscreen by Ewan McGregor. In 2018, he appeared in the independent film Created Equal, which held screenings in early 2018, and in the crime thriller Out of Blue, starring Patricia Clarkson, which premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival in September 2018.

In July 2018, Tveit reprised his role as Christian in the premiere engagement of Moulin Rouge! at Boston's Emerson Colonial Theatre. Performances began on July 10 following delays to the originally scheduled June 27 start. Between the Boston engagement and the Broadway production, he played aspiring politician Matt Dobbins in the CBS series The Code in 2019. Tveit then starred as Christian in the Broadway production of Moulin Rouge! at the Al Hirschfeld Theatre, beginning previews on June 28, 2019, and opening on July 25. The production suspended performances on March 12, 2020, due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Tveit received a nomination for the Tony Award for Best Leading Actor in a Musical at the 74th Tony Awards and won the award. Moulin Rouge! resumed performances on September 24, 2021, with Tveit returning as Christian. He departed the production on May 8, 2022, alongside other original cast members.

During Broadway's closure in 2020, Tveit filmed the Hallmark Channel movie One Royal Holiday, which was part of its Countdown to Christmas lineup and co-starred Laura Osnes and Krystal Joy Brown. In April 2021, he appeared in Hit Job, a scripted comedy podcast produced by Lorne Michaels' Broadway Video for Audible. That year, he also appeared in two episodes of the horror anthology series American Horror Stories and played Danny Bailey in the Apple TV+ musical comedy series Schmigadoon!. In the show's second season, he portrayed Topher, a young hippie seeking his purpose in life. Tveit returned to Moulin Rouge! as Christian for a 12-week engagement beginning January 17, 2023.

On February 9, 2024, Tveit replaced Nicholas Christopher in the Broadway revival of Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street, playing the title role. His 12-week engagement concluded on May 5, 2024. From June 11 to 29, 2024, he performed a concert residency at Café Carlyle, marking his debut at the venue. That month, it was announced that he had been cast in the MGM+ series Earth Abides, which premiered in December 2024. Tveit returned to Moulin Rouge! as Christian for another 12-week engagement beginning July 23, 2024. In March 2025, he performed "Weak" with Joanna "JoJo" Levesque during a concert in New York City.

Tveit starred as Freddie Trumper in the Broadway revival of Chess, which began previews on October 15, 2025, and opened on November 16. The production closed on June 21, 2026. His subsequent television project, American Classic, premiered on MGM+ in March 2026. In July 2026, Tveit performed at Radio City Music Hall following a performance of Les Misérables, joining Alfie Boe, Killian Donnelly, Hugh Panaro, Peter Lockyer and Gerónimo Rauch for an encore featuring "One Day More" and "Bring Him Home." He reprised his role as Enjolras for "One Day More."
