Tina Fey, Amy Poehler & More React to Sasheer Zamata SNL Casting

As BWW reported yesterday, Sasheer Zamata has been named SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE's newest cast member. A recent grad of the University of Virginia and Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre trainee, Zamata will make her SNL debut on the Jan. 18 episode, with Drake set to host and perform.

Today, USA Today shared some celebrity reactions to the casting news, including comments from SNL alums Tina Fey and Amy Poehler. Check them out below!

On the attention recently turned towards SNL's lack of diversity prior to Zamata's hiring, Amy Poehler said to The Hollywood Reporter: "Ugh, I don't want to talk about this. Pass."

On the same subject, Tina Fey to The Hollywood Reporter: "I think Kerry Washington did such a great job on the [Nov. 2] show [in a sketch that addressed the controversy]. And you saw how great it was for Jay Pharoah to have someone playing Michelle Obama opposite [hisPresident Obama]. So I feel like they registered that really quickly and they've acted on it really quickly."

SNL's Bobby Moynihan: "I can't even imagine what the next three weeks of her life will be like," he tells The Daily Beast. But he is rooting for her. "I've seen her perform before. She's the greatest. We're very, very lucky. Also, I'm just happy to have a friend around." Moynihan and Zamata's connection goes way back. Just before Moynihan made his own SNL debut he performed with Zamata's Upright Citizens Brigade at Zamata's college, the University of Virginia. As for what we can expect from Zamata...she must have a killer Michelle Obama impression, right? "I don't know if they want me to say it," Moynihan tells The Beast. "I'll let her show you what she can do in a few weeks."

The View's Sherri Shepherd on Twitter: "Congratulations to Sasheer Zamata ... for joining the cast of #SNL ... enjoy the ride mama!"

Scandal's Kerry Washington on Twitter: "Congrats to #SasheerZamata @thesheertruth on joining @nbcsnl 'Saturday Night Live' #SNL !!!!! Have FUN"
