BIO

Jamie Lloyd is a British theatre director who studied at the Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts. He made his first main house directing debut with Harold Pinter's The Caretaker at Sheffield Theatres before directing Pinter's The Lover and The Collection in the West End (2008). He served as Associate Director of the Donmar Warehouse from 2008 to 2011, where he directed Piaf (2008), which transferred to the West End and Buenos Aires, and Passion (2010), which won the Evening Standard Theatre Award for Best Musical. As an Associate Artist with Headlong, he directed Salome, and he also directed The Pride at the Royal Court (2008), which won the Olivier Award for Outstanding Achievement in an Affiliate Theatre.

In 2013, Lloyd founded The Jamie Lloyd Company in partnership with the Ambassador Theatre Group and became Artistic Director of Trafalgar Studios, launching the Trafalgar Transformed seasons. His productions included The Pride (2013), The Hothouse (2013), Macbeth (2013), Richard III (2014), The Homecoming (2015), The Maids (2016), and Doctor Faustus (2016). The season concluded with Betrayal (2018), starring Tom Hiddleston, Zawe Ashton, and Charlie Cox, which transferred to Broadway and received four Tony Award nominations, including Best Revival of a Play and Best Direction of a Play.

Lloyd's later productions included Cyrano de Bergerac (2019), starring James McAvoy, which won the Olivier Award for Best Revival and earned him an Olivier nomination for Best Director; The Seagull (2019), starring Emilia Clarke; A Doll's House (2023), starring Jessica Chastain on Broadway, which received six Tony Award nominations; Sunset Blvd. (2023), starring Nicole Scherzinger, which won seven Olivier Awards including Best Musical Revival and Best Director; and The Effect (2023) at the National Theatre. In 2024, The Jamie Lloyd Company became an independent production company. That year, Lloyd directed the New York transfer of The Effect, Romeo and Juliet starring Tom Holland and Francesca Amewudah-Rivers in the West End, and the Broadway transfer of Sunset Blvd., which won three Tony Awards, including Best Revival of a Musical. He also directed The Tempest (2024), starring Sigourney Weaver, launching a Shakespeare season at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane.
